Belgium,Brugge,Amsterdam

I am planning to travel from Bahrain with my family of four including two children of 11 and 13 years old. My plan to travel on 18 December for 11 nights. My plan to stay for about 4 nights in Brugge and the rest in Amsterdam. Prefering appartment if possible in the centre. Since the cost is the same to any place in Europe, do you have other alternative to stay in December instead of the above. Your help would be apprecaited.

what are your criteria for the stay - weather preferences, things to do, etc? We liked Amsterdam and Brugge but its hard to offer alternatives without a little more info on what you're looking for besides an apartment.

My main criteria is to have fun by visiting a place interesting during december using KLM. Will be staying few days in Amsterdam and still thinking between Brugge or say Cologne which I have not been before. I have been for a day to Brugge but not my family and I thought it would be good fun for the children which is most important criteria for me. Thanks for your reply.

I suggest that you include Madurodam in the Hague. It's great for children and for adults.

If you decide on Brugge, I recommend that you try to visit during the week. We went for one day in December on a Saturday and it was very busy. We loved our day there and had a great time so if you have to go on a Saturday just be prepared for the many visitors from surrounding areas.
Enjoy

Hi Ahmed,

Brugge is a very small town. I thik 2-3 nights there would be sufficient.

The Netherlands has many interesting places to visit as daytrips from Amsterdam.

Have you seen the miniguide to Amsterdam at http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/

I agree with Ira--two nights in Brugge is definitely enough. I think you'd all be bored staying there for four nights! I'd spend more time in and around Amsterdam if I were you. For instance, your children might enjoy Zaanse Schaans, an "open-air museum" near Amsterdam. And Haarlem is also supposed to be a worthwhile daytrip.

Thanks for the reply. I have now decided to spent 5 nights in the Hague, to visit Delft, Maduradam and Rotterdam..etc,. Then 6 nights in Amsterdam where we have been before but in summer. We do not normally travel to Europe in winter because of the cold but I thought good to try different things and for the children to see some of Christmas atmospher. My regards to all.

Try going to Antwerp (near Amsterdam) for a few nights, the shops there are among the finest in the world.
