Hello fellow Tripadvisor friends,
I'm going on a summer trip very soon, and this is really last minute planning, so I would REALLY appreciate ANY suggestions on: Routing, Transport Method, things to see, or even places to stay.... what's more cost effective. I'm open to dropping some places or adding, whichever seems best.
Background: Port of arrival-Frankfurt ; Trip begins mid-July ; 5 week trip ; budget 3-4stars (100-150Euro/night); Travelling as a couple with parents (age 60) for 2 weeks; holiday style - mix of sightseeing, nature, shopping, not too much physical stamina required; ideally mode of transportation by car or train is good.
Week1-2:
- Fly into Frankfurt*(1day), Drive to Hiedelberg (1day), Train to Koln* (1day),
- Train to Brussels (3days)
- Train to Bruges/Antwerp/Ghent/Lux, pick 2 (4days)
- Train to Amsterdam(4days)
Week3-4: (with the parents)
- Fly to Copenhagen(3days)
- Fly or cruise to Norway (9-10days)
- Fly to Stockholm(2days)
Week 5:
- Fly to Rome*(1day)
- Train or fly to Capri (3days)
- boat to Amalfi Coast (2days)
- Fly back to Rome and back home.
(* are places I have been before)
Belgium / Netherlands / Norway / Capri in 5 weeks

I'm afraid you have a couple of problems:
1) You are bouncing around europe like a ping pong ball
2) you don;t really have nay time in ost of the places you are going- since youseem to be ocunting the travel days and the staying somplace days as one
3)your budget is modest and will never cover a 4* property - perhaps 3* if you are lucky (but they were probably reserved a couple of months ago)
The only place you really have any time is Norway - IMHO the least interesting part of your trip - unless yuo are going to visit family or something. And you are in Italy at the height of the tourist crush - with temps in the high 90s and humidity- and are going to a tourist area that will be bursting at the seams.
And you can neither train nor fly to Capri (unless perhaps you rent a helicopter and know someone with a property large enoughand flat enought to set it down) - you will have to take a ferry or a hydrofoil. And why fly into Rome to spend half a day there? Fly tiNaples and hop a ferry straight to Capri. And again, you can;t fly from the Amalsi coast to Rome - you can take a bus from Sorrento or a train from Naples. But why not fly back from Naples versus this further trip to Rome - just taking time from your sightseeing?
what nyt said.
complete madness.
and why 3 days in Brussels of all places?
