Beginner question: how to use Swiss Rail Pass

I'm going soon to Switzerland, and I have a Swiss Rail Pass, 2nd class. I also have made special reservations on the Golden Pass line, but I haven't reserved any spot on any other train. My question is, do I need to do anything else besides just show up with my pass in order to get a seat on any train? Do I need tickets plus a pass, or can I just show the pass once I am on board and that works?

If I remember correctly, the train cars had the number 1 or 2 on the side to designate class and you would show your pass when the conductor came through. It's been five years and my memory is a bit fuzzy.

You also have your pass validated before boarding the train but I can't help you as to where you would have that done.

For the named trains like the Glacier Express you DO need separate, advanced reservations. And you need to pay a reservation fee for these trains regardless of any pass you have. For example. the fee is 33 Swiss Franks for the Glacier Express. You can book the reservation online at the appropriate site (like at http://www.glacierexpress.ch). During the process it will ask you which if any pass you have. For the Swiss Pass or Swiss Flexi-Pass just pull down to "Other." This way you are charged just the Reservation Fee NOT for the ticket. You can reserve up to 6 months in advance. And yes they do sell-out. For most all other trains just show up and get on after your pass has been initially validated for the initial use.

......After you have reserved successfully you will immediately be emailed a pdf file with your reserved seat assignment for the (named) train. One document per passenger. Print it out and bring it along. Seats are assigned by computer btw.
