Bed Bugs at London Hotel

I posted this once today, but I cannot locate it. My son stayed at the Shaftesbury Metropolis Hyde Park Hotel for one night on Monday. He was in transit. The hotel had decent reviews and it was close to Paddington. When he awoke his face, head arms and legs were red and rashy. He saw a doctor who said it could an allergy or bedbugs, probably bugs. When he left the hotel, they made him sign a paper which said it was allergy NOT bugs. He did because he had to catch a flight at Heathrow. Is this "kosher". Does it hold up? He does not want to sue or anything but he thinks they should refund his night. They obviously have had this problem before otherwise why would they need a letter. Grateful for any help or insights to this.

You can get bed bugs on the train, the metro, the theatre....so if they give you a refund I'd imagine it's for goodwill, not required. You can't really prove that the bugs were already in the hotel. Even if the bugs were brought in by the previous guest, the hotel might not get them all with just a regular room cleaning. It's just something that could happen when traveling. The important thing is that he doesn't bring the bugs back into his home in his luggage. You can read lots of tips of what to do online....don't bring the suitcases into the house, launder everything off premises before dragging the clothes back into the house, leave the suitcases out in the sun for a few days, whatever. Do whatever it takes, getting rid of an investation is a nightmare so it's worth the precaution. The luggage should be sprayed with "Neem Oil" which you can buy at any hardware store.

London had an outbreak of hotel bed bugs several years ago - even in the best of hotels is possible. and as usual they blame the tourists!

Oh well sleep tight; let the bed bugs bite!

Well the bugs have to come from somewhere. It's not like the hotel is importing them to irritate guests.

A friend of mine and her 3 kids were bitten very badly at one of the upscale Disney resorts. They got them a new suite, new clothes from the Disney Store and took all of their clothes to the cleaners and repacked their luggage. And it was just that room - not the whole hotel. So obviouly, it was the previous guest that brought them.

Sorry - as for the OP's son - no hotel can require you to sign anything before you leave. Just take your stuff and go - and call the police if they try to stop you.

This has also been posted on Tripadvisor and she seems to be getting the same "sympathetic" response.

yes, this was posted on tripadvisor. Neither site has a monopoly when you are trying to get as much information as possible. Thank you for your responses and to click on my name before I double post.
