I give up, what is Wenen? A section of Vienna? There is a section of the city south of the Ring called Weiden.<BR><BR>Is that what you mean?<BR>We stayed in the Carlton Opera last year. It is on a side street, and quiet because the windows are double glass. Great breakfast with a wide variety of good choices. I liked the place and would go back there my next trip.

OK leanrned a new one for Vienna.<BR>I knew it was Wien in German, and Vienne in French. So Wenen makes sense when the W is sounded like a V.<BR>The Carlton Opera is a nice hotel, but not pretentious. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was quite adequate.<BR>If you are there in the summer, rooms in the Carlton Opera are air cooled, which is nice.<BR><BR>And, again, the breakfast was excellent.<BR>Breads, cheeses, fruits, meats, eggs, sweet rolls, different types of tea, and<BR>various dairy products like quark and jogurt. Yummy!<BR>

Two very nice B&B's are the Pension Nossek and the Pension Pertschy, both right in the middle of the downtown area. You couldn't go wrong with either one. A more upscale hotel with a fantastic restaurant is the Hotel Konig von Ungarn, just a block behind the Stephansdom.

Pension Nossek phone (without the country code) is 01-533-7041-0. Their fax is 01-535-3646. <BR>Pension Pertschy phone is 01-534-49-0. Their fax is 01-534-4949.<BR>My choice of the two is Nossek, but they are both very good. Another choice at lower cost is Pension Grun, also centrally located. They have only 3 or 4 rooms, so it's very cozy. Their phone is 01-533-2506. <BR>For any of these, when you call you should first ask "Do you speak English?" unless you know German. They all have a decent knowledge of English.<BR>Hope you enjoy the trip.

3 years ago my daughter spent a semester studying in Vienna. Before we came to visit she asked her landlord for a recommendation for a place for us to stay. We were looking for something simple and rather inexpensive. He recommended the place that his aunt and uncle stay every time they are in vienna. It is run by an order of nuns who do this to support their order. Rooms were very clean and simple (no tv) but had very nice private baths and a teeny balcony. It was a rather anonymous looking building that wasn't too long on charm, but certainly more than met our needs. The location was convenient and we walked everywhere. If you are interested, e-mail me directly and I will look up the info for you. One caution though, at that time no one spoke English so we had to use our very minimal travellers German learned on our own from language tapes. I am sure we were the only Americans there.

Check out this website for the Admiral Hotel (http://www.admiral.co.at/ index1.htm). It is located off Mariahilferstrasse but not far from the Ringstrasse. The rooms are good size and clean and they have a good breakfast. The price is right too.<BR>
