Hello Puglia-specialists.
Next week, when I'm taking my usual holiday in Puglia, I'm meeting up with my sister-in-law and her family who are attending a wedding in Lecce.
They have expressed a wish to go to a beach for the day and whereas I'm very familiar with beaches in the Ostuni area, I know nothing about the beaches near Lecce. I'll be driving down for the day to meet up with her in Lecce, where they are staying, and don't really want to go to any beaches further south as we will already have travelled far enough for a day trip, which means the Otranto area is a bit too far for us. Are there any really nice beaches nearer to Lecce, on the Adriatic coast?
As an alternative, any nice hotel pools open to outside visitors might be an option.
All suggestions gratefully received!

Torre dell Orso is a divine beach southeast of Lecce but north of Otranto, thus closer to Lecce than Otranto. It is one of the prettiest of the beaches I've seen in Italy.
Ooh, thank you. Do you know if they have sunbeds for hire? My SIL and family won't have much more than a towel and bathers to take with them.
I don't know because I was there on a weekday in mid-September and the private establishments had closed for the season. But there are a few shops in the town just above the beach. The beach is long and wide, and overlooked by a picturesque watchtower.
See if this helps at all:

Just popping back to say thank you, ekscrunchy, I was on the lovely beach at Torre dell'Orso last Friday and it was lush! Busy, for sure, but hey, it's July and scorching. But the water was divine and perfect for my 8 year old nieces as it was so warm and shallow so far out (and even had rock pools for them to poke about in).
Thanks again!
Kate
Thanks for the report, Kate!
Kate, I am so glad that you enjoyed!
Torre dell Orso ranks very high on my list of beautiful Italian beaches and I hope to return there someday.
I will be staying in the area of Ostuni/Savelletri for a few days in mid September, and would love to know your thoughts on the best beaches win that area. I suspect that the beach clubs will be closed by then.
The only beaches I've seen in the area are the stretches of sand just north and just south of Savelletri. Pretty enough but pallid in comparison to the beauty of Torre dell'Orso! We are more interested in actual swimming than in lying on the beach, so if you think of any good spots with usually calm sea, let me know (we have water shoes).....many thanks!!
Hey Kate. I wanted to ask how was Puglia?
Me and some friends are thinking to go. Is there anywhere you could recommend?
