B&Bs/hotels near Kinsale?
I'm contemplating a last-minute change to our plans next week. We are booked at Butler House in Kilkenny for two nights (the day in between is for visiting Cashel, Jerpoint, etc.), and then planned to make our way to Killarney via one of the peninsulas. It occurs to me that we might be better off staying in Kilkenny for one night, then somewhere near Cork or Kinsale the next night, putting us closer to Killarney. I hadn't booked it that way originally since we like to minimize B&B changes, and Kilkenny seems like a lovely town, but it seems to make more sense not to backtrack to Kilkenny and then have a longer drive the next day. Although I could be wrong.
Any advice or insight for me? Recommendations near Kinsale? We'd be there on a Friday night with a family of four, so there might not be a lot of choice, but it looks like there are rooms available at Rivermount and the Old Presbytery....

Amla:
The Blue Haven, downtown Kinsale, has everything you may be looking for. We were charmed with the place and its restaurant one one of our visits to Ireland. Had the absolutely best sea food salads for lunch, laden with scallops, crab, shrimp...We took a look at the hotel rooms and were impressed, but we had already checked into the Lotomore House, east of Cork, also very nice, old mansion.

"planned to make our way to Killarney via one of the peninsulas"? which peninsula?
The logic would be to aim for Cashel(+Cahir?) on the way west between Kilkenny and Killarney or between Kilkenny and Cork. Jerpoint is south of Killarney so not really on a route to Cashel more on the way to Waterford?
Friday night in Kilkenny or Kinsale? for me would have to be Kilkenny but then that might lead to a late start on Saturday morning

Thanks so much, everyone. Here's a bit more clarification (for myself as much as anyone):
Thursday: pick up rental car, drive south from Dublin through Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough and then on to Kilkenny. Depending on time we might see Jerpoint Abbey or Kells Priory on the way into town.
Friday: Cashel, maybe Waterford, back to Kilkenny or on to Kinsale (this is the night in question). We had thought about seeing Cahir, but as we're going to Ross and Trim castles later in the trip, we could give it a miss.
Saturday: Drive to Killarney. Would love to make it out to Mizen Head if it's a nice day, or circle the Beara peninsula. Bonus of Kinsale is Charles Fort, for husband and 15yo son especially.
Basically, I was feeling as if we didn't have enough coastline on our trip. We leave Monday and are so looking forward to it! Thanks for your advice--will check out Old Bank and Blue Haven. Tony, we also have an 11yo girl, so I don't think we'll be staying out too late in Kilkenny! But I do love the looks of it, and want to be sure we arrive early enough Thursday (or leave late enough Friday) to wander about a bit.
Please do chime in if you have any other thoughts or suggestions!

It's going to be a long day collecting the rental, down through Wicklow and Glendalough to KIlkenny, drop the bags and head south for Jerpoint and Kells . The Castle and St Canice's close about 5.30 as does Jerpoint, Kells Priory is open 24/7 so probably allow Friday Morning for Kilkenny itself.
Maybe have a look at the Musical pub trail for Kilkenny (free for under 12's)
Kilkenny~Cahir~Kinsale is straightforward enough as would be Kilkenny~Waterford~Kinsale.
Kinsale to Killarney possibly Mizen Head and or Sheeps Head then over the Healy Pass from Cork into Kerry (Beara the same size as Dingle peninsula but more options and far less tourists really needs a fullish day)

Okay, so that sounds like a doable plan then? I hadn't thought to worry about collecting the rental, but if we only manage to drive through Wicklow and Glendalough and then head straight to Kilkenny, I'm fine with that. Then we could spend Saturday morning in Kilkenny, make one stop (probably the rock of Cashel--I assume this is worth seeing?!) and then head to Kinsale. Adding (or subtracting) as time allows.
We need to leave before I re-plan the whole trip!

Amla...just GO! Don't visit this board again until you get back. Otherwise you'll go nutso. Have fun in the country where fun is paramount. Our four delightful visits have made Ireland my favorite! So happy that my two late wives had the opportunity to experience the entire perimeter.
