B&B Recs Near Neuschwanstein/Innsbruck
Hi,
We will be driving from Vaduz to Berchtesgaden in early May. As we would like to see Neuschwanstein Castle, we thought it would be a good idea to spend the night somewhere in that area. We were leaning towards Seefeld because it looks lovely but there are limited hotel options in early May. We've also looked at Fussen and Innsbruck but are looking for other options. Can anyone recommend a picturesque town in that area for a one night stay? We'd like to keep the cost around 100-120 Euros and will have a car, so it isn't necessary to be near public transportation. Thanks in advance.

We stayed at the Hotel Moserhof in Reutte, Austria when we visited Neuschwanstein. It was about a 20 minute drive to Feussen. The hotel was great - we had a large room with a balcony, the people at the hotel were great, and they had a pretty good restaurant on site.

Hi ak,
We very much liked our stay at
http://www.hotel-hechten.com/ in Fuessen.
They have a parking lot.
Many rooms have balconies with a view of Fuessen castle.
It is very easy to drive to Neuschwanstein.

Hi akrobat,
We also liked our stays (2001, 2003) at the Hotel zum Hechten in Fuessen. Very nice place and just a 10 minute drive to Neuschwanstein. If your main interest is in seeing the castle, Fuessen makes the most sense.
While there, try the luge ride (Sommerrodelbahn) just a mile or so away from Neuschwanstein at Tegelberg. There's also a good cable car ride there, the Tegelbergbahn.

Two years ago we stayed at Gasthof Pension. We were a family of 4 and found the rooms and food excellent. Some rooms have views of the caste.

We stayed at the Romantic-Pension Albrecht right in Hohenschwangau.

our room had a view of the castle if it was not so cloudy.

While I can't give you any specific recommendations, I would consider Garmisch-Partenkirchen or Mittenwald as good locations.
I live in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and have worked at a hotel here for more than six years (it's a big resort and can only be used by military ID card holders, so I don't think it's what you're looking for).
Garmisch is about a 45-minute drive from Neuschwanstein and a 2.5-hour drive to Berchtesgaden. I'm not sure about the distance to Vaduz...
Garmisch is home to the Zugspitze, Germany's tallest mountain, hosted the 1936 Olympics, is a big ski town (we hosted the World Cup this weekend), and is a beautiful typical Bavarian town.
Here's a link to a few articles I've written in the past about the town: http://www.jenniferlprice.com/germany.htm
And feel free to contact me with any questions!
