Bavaria Trip

Will be spending a couple of days in the Fussen area next spring. Want to see the castles and scenery. Will be coming from Paris and looking for a more relaxed setting. Staying at the Hotel Ruebezahl - opinions? Any spas in Fussen? Curious about the weather. I'm sure it can be unpredictable in mid-April, but should we plan on being able to do some hiking? As far as getting into the Alps, any problems with driving a rental car across the border? Are there trails, lifts, tours into the mountains? Will be driving the Romantic Road back to Frankfurt for return flight. Any suggested stops other than Rothenburg? Will be taking the entire day to make the four hour drive, stopping and exploring along the way. Any other thoughts, suggestions, or opinions appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

An entire day to explore the Romantic Strassse is not enough. Nurenburg, Augsburg, Rothenburg, Munich etc takes far more time than that.

US

We stayed at the Hotel Ruebezahl just a few weeks ago and enjoyed it very much. We had one of their junior suites with a deck with a clear view to Neuschwanstein. Had a great dinner and the breakfast was super. The staff were all very nice---we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I know the hotel had information in the room about spa services. I think you can get more info on their website. Enjoy!

Russ,
I just left Hotel Rubezahl on Tuesday after a four night stay. The hotel is great, the staff, (both hotel and resturaunt) are wonderful! First of all, bring some reading material for your evenings at the hotel, as there is no english channels on T.V. There are spas in Schwangau within about 200 meters of the hotel. Weather will probably be cool with some showers or thunderstorms. Hiking is availible everywhere. Fussen is a great town with a nice shopping area, and friendly people. You can take your rental car to any country, "OTHER THAN" any former communist bloc country. So Austria and Switzerland are O.K.! The Romantic Strasse is nice, but leave plenty of time to drive it, because of trucks and traffic. (it's two lane) Try to make it to Garmisch, and Oberammergau. And the Alps are great! I drove to Innsbrck and back on two differant roads and loved it! Beautiful country! Why not fly out of Munich??
