Victory Tours. Roel was awesome.

You'll probably find more replies for Battlebus as I think they are bigger and have more guides. Roel is a bit of a one-man show.

I thought it had a familiar ring to it, so I just typed "roel was awesome" in the Search blank.

I vote for self-directed tours with a local guide.

Roel showed us around the D-Day sites last summer. He knows so much about the area. Hearing the descriptions as we drove to the places, knowing what had occurred and being able to ask him questions...I do not remember anything he didn't know, was such a plus. We will return with more family members to Normandy someday...and we would definitely hire Roel to take again.

Robespeter, you are right... I've said the same thing before. An opinion was requested in this post. I gave it.

Please - shoot me for being consistent. I’m sorry that I’m not varying my adjectives enough for your highbrow taste. I liked Roel. I thought he did an excellent job. Why does it matter if I’ve said the same thing before ? I’m surprised you didn’t take this as an opportunity to lecture the OP about the search function.

If the most important thing in your world is to stalk this board to tell me I’ve said the same thing previously, you can just ...
never mind, I’ll leave that to your imagination.

Go pick on someone else. Oh yeah, get a life.

Kateny17, sorry about the minor rant here. Check out the Rick Steves graffiti board - the WW Battlefields section (I think that's the title). There are many opinions there.

Down! Down, girl!

I guess I hit a nerve there without really meaning to. But since you handled your rejoinder so awkwardly, I think I'll keep setting you off like a wind-up toy.

Bad dog!

I don't have a clue which is better. I doubt many people have taken a tour with two different companies to be able to make a comparison. I can tell you this. I went with Battlebus and can't imagine anyone being more knowledgeable about the actual invasion history. A local guide may know how to get here and there but the Battlebus people know that and the history, the strategies, the problems encountered etc. Battlebus will serve you well.

I took the full-day American highlights tour with Battlebus and thought it was great. You can read about the backgrounds of their guides on their web site. LarryJ is right -- very unlikely that you will find someone who has been on tours with both and able to give you a direct comparison. But I can highly recommend Battlebus. (If you haven't already done this, search on those names and you will find many earlier comments about both companies.)
