Basel: airport to Foundation Beyeler on way to cruise

We are flying into Basel to board a river cruise. We are offered transport to the port, but I'm wondering if we should just send our luggage ahead, to try to see the Foundation in Richen before leaving? I'm not sure about the transportation and logistics, only that the tram takes 20 minutes from town to the Foundation.

Take the airport bus to the RR station and in front of the RR station you can catch streetcar no. 6 to the Fondation Beyeler.

For directions from the port (there are two cruise docks on opposite sides of the river), use Google map.

Aleta:

It depends on the time you have at your disposition before boarding the boat.

The airport is fairly close to the city, and buses run every 7 to 8 minutes during the day (every 10 minutes on week ends). Do NOT ride to the railway station ("Bahnhof SBB"), as line 6 does not serve that stop.

Instead transfer at "Brausebad" to streetcar line 6 in direction "Riehen Grenze". Leave at "Riehen Fondation Beyeler".

Total transfer time from airport to Fondation Beyeler is 41 Minutes.

There are no conductors on buses and streetcars: you have to get your tickets from the machines at the stops.
Airport to Fondation Beyeler is a two-zone ride (CHF 4.20 per person).
Return trip to the port will be a single-zone ride (CHF 3.40 per person) irrespective of the port you will be leaving from (St. Johann or Kleinhüningen). Inquire locally for the best way to get there from Beyeler or give the details, so I will be able to tell you.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy your trip.

Phil.

The last time I was in Basel I could swear we stopped later at the railway station when we got off the tram from Beyeler. Are there TWO stations?

There are two railway stations at Basel: the Swiss station (not served by line 6 from Beyeler, but by bus line 50 from the airport) and the German station, served by line 6, but not by the bus from the airport...

It's easy to find your way in Switzerland. On www.sbb.ch/en you can for exemple input from "Flughafen Basel-Mulehouse" to "Riehen, Fondation Beyeler" and you get the exact instructions including walking times.
