Barcelona upscale hotel for family of 4 - Claris vs Majestic Residence

Hello all,

We will be in Spain in mid June. Family of 4, with 2 kids 12 and 10. Looking for a semi-luxury/ upscale hotel in city centre area.

Finding a hotel which will fit us all in one room is a tough proposition. I don't understand why BCN hotels don't allow this even with a 40 sq.m. suite with a king bed and an additional bed, especially if we have no issues fitting in. Breakfast we would pay extra or skip.

Anyway - options available are 2 connected rooms in Claris vs an apartment in the Majestic annex. These are going to run us about 1500 euros for 4 days, which is more than we would like to pay.

We would prefer a hotel to an apartment. I have seen good reports on the Claris.. what about the Majestic apartment, does anyone have any experience? Any other hotel we could look into, in the 200-250 euros/nt level?

Thank you for your help!
Vince

Hi Vince!

Now I'm speaking from 10 years ago, and only with the Claris, but we had a similar issue -- don't think the Majestic had the apartment set up back then.

We were able to secure a great deal for 2 adjoining rooms on one of the upper floors of the Claris, breakfast included (and a pretty darned good one). BUT, we had a 10 year old and a 15 year old in the other room, rather than a 10 and 12 year old, and that's a bit of a difference. I don't recall there being an adjoining door.

We LOVED the Claris -- rooms great, location perfect, and the kids loved the roof top pool. It had the best A/C I think I've ever had at a hotel in Europe. And the bathrooms were, sigh, unbelievable! Oh, and each room was provided with a decent bottle of Spanish wine, and my husband and I immediately snagged the wine from the kids' room.

I looked at the photos of the apartment and other than the outdoor balcony with the scary enclosure, it looks perfect and would suit all your needs, as well as comfort level in having the kids with you in the same suite.

The only downside with the apartment vis a vis 2 rooms at the Claris, to me, would be one rather than two bathrooms, and maybe one rather than two tvs. Don't know how many tvs in the apt. or whether that is a selling point with the kids.

The downside with the two rooms is not being able to monitor the activity of the kids.

There are a lot of hotels that have adequate room for four.

I googled up Hotel Majestic, and they have an apartment for four, including a kitchen.

Try google.es for more hotel hits.

I'd go with the Majestic Residence (www.majesticresidence.es). They're spacious, comfortable and you have access to all of the services of the Majestic. It would be difficult to find a better location. I am not aware of any other apartment in the immediate area of the same quality and services. They are currently running a special offer if a discount up to 30 % if you stay for two or more nights.

Another option you can look at would be the Hispanos 7 Suiza aparthotel, Carrer de Sicília, 255 (http://www.innsofspain.com/hotels/ba...panos-7-suiza/).

Both are recommended by Maribel's Guides.

Thank you all for good info.

Surfergirl, good pros and cons for both options.

Robert, I assume you have stayed at the Majestic apartments (as opposed to the hotel)? Unfortunately the Hisp Suiza is sold out for my days.

I'll keep an eye out for other hotel options. If anyone knows of a suite room to fit 2+2 please let me know!
