Anyone travel this year to Barcelona? Did they use any walk or bus tours? I was thinking about just doing it alone with friends, but would like to hear alternatives. Any suggestions? The other thread is old. Thanks.

Barcelona is walkable ,it also has excellent public transit (cheap).

Barcelona has a bus turistica, which is a hop on, hop off bus tour with two routes (and an additional route in the summer). You can purchase one or two day tickets. If you plan well, you can jump off whereever you want to spend more time, then just get back on another bus whenever you're ready. There are narratives offered in many languages.
This gives you a good overview of the city and is relatively inexpensive.

I also recommend the bus turistic, which is a good way to get to the many spread out attractions in Barcelona.
The metro is also easy to use and extensive. Be alert for pick pockets as in most big cities. The HOHO bus keeps you above ground-which I prefer in a new city.
You don't say how long you are staying, and that may make a difference. Bus Turistic is relatively expensive compared to the Metro or (excellent) public buses. But for a one-day overview it may be worth it.
The Metro is easy to figure out; buy a 10-fare pass for the best deal.
The Barcelona tourism office leads several walking tours of the city. I took the Modernism tour and realy enjoyed it.

We were in Barcelona last October (I just responded to your post about weather). We did not take any guided walking tours or bus tours & I don't feel that we missed out on anything. I think if you have a good guidebook & rent the audio tours, it's really not necessary, but I realize that others may disagree with me. We spent 5 days in Barcelona & saw a lot of sights. We either walked or took public transportation or taxis. We visited places on our own, such as Sagrada Familia, Casa Battlo & Casa Mila & rented the audio guides. We did have a guided tour of Palau la Musica.

I went to Barcelona a month ago with a friend and we took a very interesting walking tour with a very nice guide. they do it every morning starting from the Placa de Catalunya Metro station (the one near the fountain) and it's free of charge, which means if you want to stop at some point cause you've seen a shop you'd like to check out, then you haven't waisted your money and you can join another group the next morning. They leave every day at 10.30 and it takes about 2 hours to see the main things in the historical centre.
