Barcelona to Varenna in 5 days by Car
HI,
We have had so much great help with our holiday and so here I am again asking for your advice.
We are driving from Barcelona to Varenna and we have 5 to 6 days to do.
So where do you recommend.
We are already driving from Paris to Barcelona prior and are staying in Amboise, Sarlat and Carcassone. Not sure if that effects your choices.
I have been to Nice and Monaco before so on this trip I am thinking in the Provence somewhere . .Avignon? St Remey's? Not sure.
Ok thanking you all in advance!

did you decide against getting the ferry?

I don't know how your dates work out, but there are daily sailings from Barcelona to civitavecchia, [the port near Rome] weekly sailings to Livorno, and twice weekly sailings to Genoa.
it would cut out a lot of driving, and might be an adventure for the kids.

Not sure which works out better financially but I kinda like the idea about being on the boat for a night ...it's almost like we wont lose a day travelling etc...do you know much about the ferry . .can you see the cities you pass or is it too far out at sea?

I would make 2 stops----St. Remy and Menton---perhaps 2 nites each. But, I would not drive to Varenna---too far and on the wrong side of the lake. Stay on the west side--Menaggio or Lenno. Varenna only makes sense by train.
