Barcelona, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca, Madrid, Todelo--help!
Hello!
We'll be traveling to these cities in early summer. Are there budget places to stay that you'd recommend? Sights definitely to see when one's time is limited? Also, please, do you know what bus and/or train connections are like between any of these cities? Any information you may share will defintely be appreciated! Thanks,
Ginger

Hi!
In Madrid, I stayed at Hotel Escultor. I don't remember how expensive it was but it was very nice and clean. We walked in El Retiro park, went shopping at El Corte Ingles and Galerias Preciadas (malls), visited the Prado Museum, Royal Palace, Valley of the Fallen (a Basilica and a War Memorial), Escorial (another palace), walked in Plaza Mayor and Plaza Espana.
In Segovia, we visited 2000+ year old Roman aqueducts and the Alcazar (another palace).
In Toledo, we visited the home of El Greco and visited crafters (beautiful swords and jewelry).
You didn't mention Granada. I would try to go there if you can. It is the home of the Alhambra, a palace that was occupied over time by Jews, Moors, and Christians, each leaving their own mark. Read Washington Irving's "Tales of the Alhambra".
Have a great trip!

sorry, I can't help with your specific questions, but my husband and I went to Spain and Portugal and Morroco last year and you will absolutely love Spain. Seville, Salamanca, Toledo, they are absolutely beautiful, as is all of Spain. have a great time.

Hi. Just arrived back from Madrid and Salamanca four days ago. This page helped me alot so I wanted to contribute. Visit Madrid. Definitely worth it. Parque del Reitro, Museo del Prado, The Plaza Meyor, and especially Palacio Real. Salamanca is a great, old city with a young and energetic culture. In Madrid I stayed at Hotel Loundres in Puerta del Sol(great spot) It cost about 50 american dollars a night. There are great buses from Plaza Conde de Casal to Salamanca and Segovia and Toledo. The bus station is called estacion Auto Res. The busses are very luxurious and very affordable. It is 26 american dollars round trip to salamanca, leaving every hour on the hour. The ride is great too. The weather now is great. Enjoy it!
