Barcelona San Pau Apartment

We are considering to book this apartment in San Pau for four nights in June. I would like to ask what you think about the location?

It'd be easier to evaluate if the link worked.

The very center of the city is Placa de Catalunya
...you might look for something closer (in that direction).

It's not bad -- it's very near a metro stop and near Sagrada Familia and not too far from Parc Guell. It's also near the hospital by that name, of course (Pau) which is a magnificent architectural masterpiece and a UNESCO Heritage site. It isn't a hospital any more, a bunch of international organizations are in there.

But, if you've never been there before (and I gather not), I think you might prefer something below the ave Diagonal. This is the kind of apt that would appeal to someone who is a very independent, experience traveler and doesn't like staying where all the tourists are, or someone who has been there before. If that doesn't concern you, I think it would be fine.

When I am thinking of stuff like that, I tend to look at reviews of nearby hotels on Tripadvisor and see what folks say about the location. here is one

Agree with Christina, this location would be excellent if you know the city well or want to stay away from the most beaten tracks. But if this is your first time in Barcelona, I would suggest to stay in modern and fairly upscale Eixample or medieval and bustling El Born. Both areas are close to "everything".

Eixample: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...barcelona.html
El Born (I use to stay here): http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html

Dear Christina and Kimhe,

thank you for your input. Yes, this is my first time in Spain. Am traveling with another lady who is my neighbor. We decided to go to Spain just a couple of days ago and are leaving Atlanta for Madrid June 3rd. Then onto Cordoba/Seville/Granada/Barcelona.

In Barcelona, I was hoping to book an apartment (1 or 2 bedroom) since we are staying there for 4 nights and so far have not been able to find anything. One bedroom units have mostly one double bed so that is out. Also, many apartments are booked for June 14-June 18.I contacted several rental agencies and this is the only response I got. I will check the Trip advisor, again. Am not panicking yet but....

For only an four day stay, a hotel may be easier. Renting an apartment includes arranging to meet someone with a key at a specific time whixh can be a hassle. And you may have the problem of arriving with luggage and not being able to check in for several more hours. You can always leave luggage at a hotel bedore check-in. We frequently rent apartments and homes but not for such a short amount of time nor at the last minute.

Happy Trvl,

I know what you mean. I do not have much experience in renting apartments. I have only rented apartments in Rome, Amsterdam and St. John's, Newfoundland for 3-5 days. So far no problem. The manager of the Barcelona apartment has an office in the basement and offered to assist us. The location is obviously not ideal for two old ladies who have never been to the city. Unless we get lucky and find something else there are always taxis and metro. We'll be staying in the hotels 8 nights and I really think we will enjoy the privacy of a two bedroom apartment for four nights. That is just my feeling. Hope it makes sense.

A pity you're not In Barcelona on the 11th. At 8pm wonderful Mayte Martin sings in intimate El Dorado Sociedad Flamenca in Calle Buenaventura Muñoz, 21: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEB0U7YFRDU

Do not despair ;-)

On June 5th plain fantastic Silvia Pererz Cruz sings in the old world Corral de Comedias theater in Alcala de Henares, just outside Madrid. Here' a Clip from the "Granada" performance she will do in Alcala, her Edith Piaf thing at 3 mins is spectacular. Perez Cruz is one of the absolute greatest voices in Spanish music today. http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/a...perez/2558901/
And here an out of this world Lorca/Cohen/Morente tribute from the same performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx5CW0Vyvi8

Info and tickets: http://www.corraldealcala.com/tempor...hp?id_obra=872

The theater dates back to 1601: http://www.corraldealcala.com/elcorral/historia.php

Alacala de Henares was the birth-place of Cervantes and it's now on the UNESCO list. Well worth a visit in itself. http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres...rg/en/list/876

make sure that any apartment you rent is registered by the local government.
The law states that every apartment rented out should have a number, this number is started off with the letters HUTB. It in theory should be shown on the website where the property is advertised for rent. But that is still not being done, unfortunately.
You can look up the number on this website to see if it is listed and that the listed details match.
http://www14.gencat.cat/rtcwebguies/...do?pst=6&lg=en
If they are not listed or the details are not correct then maybe you should consider looking for another rental.

Video shows the trouble occurring for the neighbours who want the illegals closed down.

Kimhe,

I did listen to her this afternoon. She is great.

Ribeirasacra,

very useful info. Habitat Apartment - recommended by Danon- are licensed. I checked. They offered two apartments for four (4) nights:

Lauria: Carrer de Roger de Lluria 40
(4th floor: 680 euros)

2 balconies: Carrer d'Enric Granados, 115
(2nd floor: 520 euros)

Both are evidently on very busy streets.

The link you sent me also listed Atenea Calabria (Apartment Hotel) located on c/Calabria, 129 for 120 euros/night. Have no idea if this location is better.

Stephany,
We stayed at the Citadines apartment hotel a few months ago, here's a link if you're interested
http://www.citadines.com/en/spain/ba...a/ramblas.html

This was our first visit to Barcelona and we loved the area, it was busy but the apartment was very quiet and comfortable. There is a grocery across the street, and market Boqueria is only 5 minutes. Many places to dine or there is also a big El Corte Ingles department store with a grocery and area with prepared foods if you'd rather pick something up and eat in one day. The apartment hotel is close to Placa Catalunya where you can meet up with many tours if interested and if you're flying in, we took a bus from the airport to Placa Catalunya and walked a short distance to the hotel.

Enjoy your visit to Barcelona.

Both the Carrer de Roger de Lluria, 40 and the Carrer d'Enric Granados, 115 apartments would be just perfect. Both are in upscale and relatively tranquile parts of the Eixample District and Central to "everything". I would perhaps chosen the Roger de Lluria in the wonderful Dreta de l'Eixample (Eixample right). http://www.oh-barcelona.com/en/barce...ixample-dreta/
