Barcelona Hotels, Looking for recommendations

My 60-yr-old husband is going to Barcelona for leisure and needs Fodorite's assistance deciding where to stay for an October trip. He needs a room with ample floor space (needs to lie on floor for exercises), and a comfortable bed. Primary considerations are location close to sites and restaurants; a decent nights' sleep; and a coffee maker in the room or lobby. Shopping is irrelevant.

We are looking a 3* hotels and are considering Hotel Grandados, Europark, The Balmes, Hotel 62, or Soho. If anyone has any opinions about any of these or some others in the Eixample or Gothic districts, we'd love to hear them.

As always, thanks a million for your help. It is much appreciated.

SixtyTwo Hotel Barcelona is a four star. as is the Hotel Granados 83. The Balmes is a decent 3-star. The 3-star Soho gets decent reviews.

I think what you are seeking may be a bit hard to find in a budget hotel like that (I consider 3* kind of budget--at least not the kind of hotels with large rooms or gyms). I don't know what Hotel Granados is other than Granados 83, which is not a 3* hotel. And from my experience, very few hotels in Barcelona have coffee makers in the room. Of course they will have some way to get coffee, but it isn't going to necessarily be a coffeemaker in the lobby, either (it maybe a breakfast buffet, or something).

YOu didn't name this one but I stayed there and really liked it, the NH Calderon. First, the location is outstanding and the rooms are bigger than many other hotels of that price range (which isn't bad for that level of hotel). Plus, they have a gym, although I wasn't in it so not sure what it looks like, but the room I had was large enough you could do something on the floor. Their website also lists room sizes when many do not (I think the double superior is 30 m2). I had that one as the rates are reasonable. The bed was very comfortable. They had a minibar, but no coffeemaker that I can recall.

I've also stayed in the Hotel Jazz which I liked and is a great location, they belong to the same group several of those you name do. I don't remember the level of room I had, probably not the cheapest, but it was not big enough to do exercises on the floor that I can remember. Depends how much space that really takes up. I don't think they had a coffeemaker, either.

As with most hotels, you will get a bigger room if you book the higher priced categories, of course.

Christina, thanks for all that information. You are right, Granados 83 is the correct name. I've found 3* hotels w coffee makers in room but no mention of square footage and they haven't yet responded to emails on subject. I'll check out your two recommendations. Thanks again.

Why email? Book now: http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/granados-83.html
And if not available use booking to search for other hotels.

I think travelingirl wanted to email to ask about coffeemakers in the room or the square footage, not just to book. I would want to know that, also (the square footage). Budget hotels can have double rooms as small as 11-12 m2.

Which 3* hotels in Barcelona did you find with a coffeemaker in the room? I like that amenity also so I was wondering. I've never seen it in any European hotel room (although they are common in all level of US hotels), except for 4* large chain hotels or something like that that.

Booking. com DOES give you the size of the room and other information .
I always check their web pages since the size of the room is important to me..

We had good luck with the H10 hotels in Spain. Most are 3-4*, "euro-smart", etc.

Christina, Sixty-two Hotel has a Nespresso machine in rooms, and someone who stayed in a room w a king-size bed in EuroPark said on TripAdvisor that her room had a Nespresso machine as well, although EuroPark's website didn't mention it.

Danon: Thanks for the Booking.com suggestion, as I've never used that web site. It's ironic that a third-party web site has more comprehensive info that the hotel's own marketing website.

We often stay in apartments but if we stay in a hotel ,a good size room is a must.
I also check the hotel web page to see if the rate Is lower than booking.com. It seldom is.

Danon...Wrong person in my posting sorry I meant to say Christina.... sorry grovel grovel.

Nespresso is not coffee!
When you are in Spain you will find bars everywhere and they will serve coffee.... damn good coffee at that. I have not kept up with prices in BCN but other places I have been around Spain this year prices around the 1 to 1.5€
