Barcelona hotel, Balmes Hotel or Barcelona Plaza, location?

Jump to last reply

I am looking at two possible hotels, the Balmes Hotel or the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza. Here are the addresses:-

Balmes Hotel
Mallorca 216
Barcelona

Catalonia Barcelona Plaza Hotel
Placa Espana 6-8
Barcelona

I will fly in/out of BCN airport so I'd like something with easy access to the Airport bus. As for the price the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza is the more expensive option, the advantage is that is very easy to take the airport bus to the hotel with virtually no walk from the bus station. The disadvantage, I am worried that the airport buses to return to the airport could be full and I could have difficulty getting on a bus.

As for the Balmes Hotel, it doesn't seem as easy to get from/to BCN airport; however I get the impression the area around the hotel is more lively and has some dining options and the hotel is better located for sightseeing. If any fodorites know either hotel or the immediate areas could they please advise which is the better option, I only have three nights in Barcelona.
