Barcelona Car rental return
Hi, I'm returning a EuRopcar to Barcelona after driving from Ainsa in the Pyrenees, and staying on there for a few days at the Hotel Claris in Eixample. I'd prefer to return this to the Gran Via station and take a short taxi to our hotel, but I'm wondering how hard it will be to drive into the city about 4pm on a Friday in September to return it.
Would it be easier to return it to the airport location and then take a longer taxi ride to our hotel? Really appreciate some local knowledge here.

3pm would probably be a lot easier. The convenience of driving in to the city, unloading everything at your hotel, and then returning the car would outweigh the traffic issue for me I think.

I'm sorry I can't answer your main question, but if you are taking a taxi from the car rental agency to your hotel, you might want to keep your luggage with you -- it'll be easy enough to move with the taxi!

Driving in Barcelona on a Friday afternoon? Not something I enjoy doing. You'll be far better off dropping the rental off at the airport and taking a taxi from there. The cost will be about 30€ to the Claris.

thanks again Robert and Debbie for your input. Robert, I'm leaning toward the airport to avoid driving into the city...however, since our hotel is so CLOSE to the car return, I sort of hate to pass that up.

Barcelona is a series of one-way streets with fast moving traffic, so plan your route carefully. You should follow the Diagonal, turning onto Pau Claris, which will put you in front of the hotel. From there you go down to the Gran Via. The access to the Europcar location is on the parrallel street, also called the Gran Via.
If you miss the turn (heavy traffic) you'll have to go down the block to Balièn and swing back around onto the Gran Via, coming up on Roger de Lluria.
The walk from the dropoff location back to the hotel will be at least 15 minutes.
