Barcelona & Amalfi Coast Honeymoon

We are getting married July 2014 and have decided to split our honeymoon between Barcelona and the Amalfi Coast. We have never been to either place. We are planning on spending 7 days in each location (14 total). What is the best area(s) to stay in? Is 7 days too many? other locations to include? etc.

We are looking to split our time between relaxation and sightseeing. Given it's our honeymoon, we would like to avoid traveling too much and are not looking to pack and unpack every two days.

We've traveled quite a bit on the Amalfi Coast, but by far our favorite place was Ravello. There are many great hotel options, but we splurged on the Hotel Caruso, which to me was perfect. You would love it for your honeymoon

Great choice of spending 7 days in each location. IMO, Positano is the most picturesque village on the Amalfi Coast and is always where I stay when visiting the AC. It has good beaches (for relaxation) and good ferry options for travel to other villages and Sorrento. While I enjoyed visiting Ravello, it would be too remote for me for a week, since you have to take the bus down to Amalfi to get anywhere else on the AC.

Amalfi and Ravello can be seen as a day trip via ferry from Positano, as well as Capri.

If you don't want/need full hotel service, you can do as I do and rent an apartment for the week. It saves money (and laundry) and gives you flexibility in your meal choices.

Whatever you decide, do so quickly. July is high season and many places will already be booked. In October I booked my apartment for my annual trip to Positano in June.

7 days is plenty for the Amalfi Coast, but I would stay in the actual Amalfi town (at Hotel Lidomare) because it's central. From there you can take a direct ferry to Capri for the day, or hike up to Ravello, or take a bus to Positano or any other of the nearby towns, including Salerno in the east and Sorrento in the west, AND visit Naples (but just during the day) and Pompeii. Amalfi is also less expensive than Positano with fewer stairs to climb every day (unless you stay on the top of the cliff).

(Shameless plug - I talk a lot about Amalfi and its activities in my fictional travel memoir, "Bullets, Butterflies, and Italy." Check my website at www.johnmeyerbooks.com for more info (including some maps and photos) or download from any of the major e-book stores like Kindle, Kobo, or Apple.)

I assume you are flying between the two places, correct?

Thanks for the quick replies. Yes, we are flying between the two places. I was considering 4-5 nights at Positano/Amalfi and 1-2 nights in Capri.
