Bamberg lodging

Have any of you stayed at either Barockhotel or Weierich B & B in Bamberg? Reviews were good for both on Trip Advisor; maybe better for Barock but it was also 20 euros more.

Tidy,
There is a trip report by November Moon in which she mentions staying at Barock am Dom.
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...rip-report.cfm

You might enjoy reading her report, especially if you have an interest in drinking beer.

We were in Bamberg this past June and stayed at the Hotel-Restaurant St. Nepumuk. It may be a little more expensive, but we ended up there because it had the only triple available at the time. It was very nice, though, and wonderfully located, although it would be a challenge with a car. (Read November Moon's report about a car and the Barockhotel.)

We absolutely loved Bamberg. Beautiful town--both the medieval and newer sections. The Dom in Bamberg is one of my favorite churches (and I have seen a few!.) Wonderful sculptures, both inside and out. Beautiful carved wood altarpieces, an exquisite statue of Synagoga and, of course, the Bamberg Rider.

You will have a great visit.

I've stayed in both hotels. They are both very close to each other so in terms of location it's a tie. Great location for both hotels. If money were not object I'd say I would prefer the Barock Hotel but I really don't think the quality of the Weierich is too far off.

We, too, loved Bamberg. We stayed at the Barock. It was ok-nothing to rave about. The location is very good and that is
the most important factor in my choice of hotel. Enjoy your wonderful opportunity to see this beautif small city.

Ahhh, my beer pilgrimage trip report Just re-read it and it brought back fabulous memories. Mmmmm...beer... Good thing it is Friday! But I got a couple bottles of wine in the mail today from my wine club and I had been planning to open a bottle tonight. What to do? I think I am on the horns of a dilemna.

Not having a car in Bamberg is good - just take a cab from the train station and you will be good to go. The train station is a bit of a walk with luggage. That atempt to find our hotel in the car has become legend in our family - someone made me tell the story just last weekend. There is a lot more to it, took us like an hour to find out way there. At one point, we even drove back out of town and tried a do-over. Finally, I double parked with the car and my husband walked to the hotel, got directions and came back to guide me. We ended up having to drive through a small platz and then an alley that I never would have considered driving a car through of my own choice, but he assured me that it was indeed the way. And it was. By the time we got there, the owner of the hotel was out front ready to park the car for me since he knew we had such a hard time.

Once the car was safely tucked away at the hotel, Bamberg turned into a lovely town - very walkable and the hotel was in a fabulous location close to everything.

Yes, it is funny now. It took me a few days to see the humor though.

Having driven a car into the Bamberg Altstadt on four different occasions I learned a valuable lesson on my first attempt. Park in the public garage at Geyerswoerth and walk to the hotel from there. Getting to that garage is fairly easy. Getting to a hotel like Weierich or Barock Am Dom can be very challenging to say the least not to mention they really don't have their own parking. Well Barock has a few spaces out front but there's a good chance they'll be taken.

My first attempt to drive straight to Weierich though was interesting to say the least. One wrong turn and you will see a lot more of the city than you planned.

Actually the real lesson I learned is don't bring a car to Bamberg if possible.

We've traveled to Bamberg by car on several occasions. We have always stayed at the Hotel Molitor near the St. Nepumuk mentioned above. They have their own garage so we just park it there and leave it until we depart. I believe the Weirich Hotel is a sister hotel to the Molitor.

By using our GPS, we've been able to navigate the streets of Bamberg pretty well but it can be challenging.

We stayed at the Molitor and enjoyed it as well.

We arrived by train. The train station is a distance from either hotel (or the Molitor). We did walk it one way but used a cab the other time. If you have much luggage, I would consider a cab. Gary
