We just got back from our 1st trip to Paris two weeks ago and just can't get it out of our minds. As a result, we are already planning to go back in May to explore Southern France. However, we just realized the dates we are planning to go are the same dates the Cannes Film Festival is taking place. We are thinking maybe if we get the coastline, Cannes, Monte Carlo etc. out of the way a day or two before it starts and then head to Provence, Avignon, St. Remy etc. we may not be affected. Has anyone been in the area during the festival? Do the crowds spill into Nice and other areas too.? Or are we crazy to think we can avoid it and should just reschedule other dates. Thanks all in advance for you input. Sandra

Sandra. A group of friends and I were in this area during the festival this year. Except for Cannes itself with the blocked off streets, you would never know a festival was going on. Of course, we did not stay in Cannes, but nearby.
Besides, there are much more interesting places to stay in the vicinity than Cannes iself. Those small villages are so lovely.. Stay elsewhere, unless you want "star watch", even though you can always drop by to do it...

Thanks for the replies. We don't intend on staying in Cannes, but we would like to see it. We will just have to go there before the festival starts. Thanks again.
