Azores in February

Hi everyone!

I'm going to Ponta Delgada in early February for five days and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations about things to do at this time of year, as well as restaurants etc.? I will most likely stay on Sao Miguel island. I'm a young(ish) solo female traveller and I like walking/hiking, photography and being near the sea/ocean. Any personal recommendations of walks/hikes, beautiful scenery, restaurants or other things to do gratefully received!

The two sights not to miss in my view are Lago do Fogo and Sete Cidades. Each is uniquely stunning. Also a visit to the town of Furnas and the gardens at Terra Nostra are worth a full day. We also enjoyed exploring the town of Mosteiros and its gorgeous black sand beach. I am not sure about the weather in Feb. We were there in Aug and had a couple days of rain/cloudy weather which is not ideal for the two lakes I mention. If you are into hiking and photography you are in for a real treat.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! Is there any way to reach these places by public transport, or possibly a group tour type thing, or would you need your own vehicle?

Part of the fun of the Azores is hopping between islands, which is relatively inexpensive. Have a look at visiting Faial or Terceira, both lovely islands, while you're there.

We rented a taxi for the day or half the day. The price has to be negotiated with the taxi driver.

Thanks for the info. I understood that ferries between the islands don't really run in winter - is that true?
