Azores - Does Furnas smell like sulphur? Also, breakfast spot in PD?

I know this sounds a little picky but I am sensitive to smell and have read about the sulphur odor at the calderas near Furnas lake. I am contemplating lodging in Furnas and want to make sure that the odor doesn't pervade the area.

Also, we will have about 4 hours between flights in Sao Miguel (arriving at 7 am from Boston) so thought we might go into town to grab breakfast instead of hanging out at the airport. We will have luggage so I want to have an idea of where we are going instead of wandering around with suitcases in tow.
