not for the UK... but this might be of interest for you to compare: I booked a car for a France trip. The prices on the French site were less than the prices on the USA site, and the French site included some of the insurance. (yes, I compared in 'dollars to dollars').

In the UK, I've only had good experiences with booking Avis direct. Twice I checked their prices then went to AutoEurope and they could/would not beat the price I'd received from Avis.
Our best experience was a few years ago when we were to drop the car off at Barrow in Furness. There was flooding all around and train service was disrupted. The owner of the hotel we were staying at was going to London at the same time as we were and offered us a sure ride all the way or if we could pick up a train further down the line , we would all take the train rather than driving. He called Avis and they agreed to pick up the car at the hotel rather than us driving about 20 miles out of our way.

Bless their hearts! After I had an accident in the Lake District (my fault), and the tow truck brought us into the Leeds airport, they gave me another car without blinking an eyelid.
My sister and I kept looking at each, other, awed at the fact that they gave us another car, despite my having damaged our first car.
I'm taking a trip to Ireland in September, and so far it looks like Avis, through Autoeurope, is going to be the best deal. They won't impose the "senior citizen" surcharge of around 17 euros per day that many companies charge. And if I'm able to get a World Mastercard by the time of our trip, it will cover the CDW.
It really looks like by far the best deal so far.

Yes - we rented Avis in the UK. Picked up the car (mid size automatic) in London the day we left and dropped it off in Edinburgh after we were done with day trips.
The car was fine, everything worked, they didn;t try to force extra insurance on us and the drop off charge was waived (we ended up taking an Edinburgh car back there).
