Avignon TVG station

Does anyone know if there are short term storage bins at the Avignon rail station? We will be coming from CDG and renting a car BUT first we want to "do" the bridge and the palace with no luggage.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't see anything on here that would indicate the availability of a place to store luggage.

Maybe you could rent the car first and use it as your storage bin? After loading your luggage in the trunk, you could simply leave the rental car in the rental lot (check with agency first) and walk into Avignon for your touring - it's not far.

I wouldn't recommend walking to Avignon from that TGV station, it is along a major major highway and also farther than most people would want to walk (3-4 km), although you could, of course.

There is a shuttle bus, anyway, from the TGV station into the city, but you could just go park under the palace in that underground parking garage, anyway, makes more sense, then you wouldn't have to go back to the TGV station (if the rental company would even allow that, for you to not remove the car after renting). I'd be a lot more worried about leaving my stuff in a rental car in the rental lot than in the underground parking garage (some risk there, of course, also), but others might feel differently on that point.

navette schedule http://www.alfavignon.com/html/fr_tran3.html That does go to the main Avignon train station though, I believe, not the main square. I'd just get the car and go to the parking garage under the palace square.

They do have luggage lockers in the main Avignon gare, actually, just not the TGV one. info on where they have them, cost and what type http://www.voyages-sncf.com/guide/vo...signe_gare.pdf

It's about an hour walk from the Avignon TGV station to the Palace of the Popes. Two hours to and fro is more than most people would want to do as well as walking around town.

To the OP, you can pick up your car, load up your luggage, then park at a parking garage while you see the town. (Make sure your luggage is not visible from outside the car.

Yes, the TGV station is not even in town. Your plan might have worked with a train to Avignon-Centre but not Avignon-TGV. Pick up your car and use it for storage.

Don't bother trying to find street parking in Avignon intra muros -- use one of the official underground lots or parking structures. Les Halles is perhaps the most central one, situated over the central covered market.

Best underground central parking I've found in Avignon is marked "Rochers des Doms". It is just underneath the Pope's Palace and best of all, it is accessed directly from the ring road, so no need to deal with driving inside the walls of Avignon (never a treat, even for those of us used to the city).

Should be safe enough to leave your loaded car in such a lot, just assuming you have nothing showing. I would certainly not park a loaded car in any of the open-air lots just outside the city walls. That is asking for trouble.

Pick up your car, stash the luggage in the trunk then drive:

Use the parking suggested above, use Google Maps and/or Streetview to find one or do it the old fashioned way and just watch for signs (a large capital P) as you get close to the bridge.
