I think it's a British term that means the same thing as deductible in the US.

We love Auto Europe for just this reason and will only rent through them. Some of their pricing in some countries is inclusive of the mandatory (and sometimes supplemental) insurance. You can also request and pay for a zero deductible coverage in some countries in advance. No haggling at the rental counter.

Call them directly and they will give you specific terms.

Hi D,

"No Excess" means no deductible.

It works the same as using the insurance on your CC.

If you have an accident, they reimburse you.

Have you looked to see if your CC offers insurance?

Does this mean that you still have to provide them with a credit card when you pick up the car. I have just looked into hiring a car through Argus hire and found a really good deal with 'Zero Excess' and wondered whether this still means they suspend money from your CC?

What Argus does amy or may not be the same (Autoeurope is a broker so the actual car is from some rental company - not Autoeurope.)

Every car rental company I am aware of puts a hold on some amount of money when you rent. even if your CC provides insurance with no deductible (and you have to check this - every card/type is different) that may still not cover glass and/or tires.

You need to check the details directly with the rental company and your credit card.

The no excess/deductible option is quite expensive compared to the standard insured rental which has usually a $800 (or is it euro?) deductible, or even more so compared to the "basic" rate where the insurance is carried by the renter's credit card (with no deductible with my credit card). I choose the last option if it is available, but I am willing to live with the paperwork and the wait for the eventual reimbursement by my credit card company.
