Austria, Switzerland, Italy
We are taking an 11-day trip to Austria, Switzerland & northern lake region of Italy October 7. What kind of clothes should I pack? We will not be spending alot of time in the Alps, just basic sightseeing with a tour group. What is the money exchange & any other things that would be helpful?

The weather will probably be turning colder in early October. I suggest you look at layering, which always gives you the most options. A tee shirt can be worn alone or under a blouse and/or then topped with a sweater. A raincoat with a zip out lining could also be useful in the higher mountain regions.
Austria and Italy both use the Euro and Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc.
If you have any specific questions or can provide more info about the cities you are visiting, I will try to help.

I think your daytime temps could average from about 50 to 60 degrees but maybe in the 40's at night. It will be somewhat warmer in Italy. You are likely to have fog and rain in the mountains at that time of year.
Dress for dinner will depend on where you dine. I think you will be fine with a nice pair of slacks and blouse with a jacket or sweater. Khakis or slacks and a nice sport shirt for men. I don't think a jacket and tie would be required unless you were dining at a very upscale restaurant.
Of the cities you listed, I am most familiar with Lucerne. It is one of my favorites. With the mountains, the Lake and the River Reuss it's just gorgeous. There are lots of shops and restaurants in the Old Town. One of our favorites was a Greek place, Syrtaki Restaurant, which is near the Train Station on Morgartenstrasse. Very good food.
Here are a couple of websites that will give you an idea of things to do in Lucerne and Zurich.

Mt. Pilatus is a good choice if the weather's OK - http://www.pilatus.ch/
You can also do a search on Fodor's for the various cities you will be visiting. There's certainly lots of info here.
