According to Mastercard's web site, there is a Mastercard/Cirrus ATM at the airport.

But according to Visa's web site, there is not a Visa/Plus ATM at the airport.

Check the back of your ATM card to find out what network (Cirrus or Plus) you're on.

Yes, there definitely is an ATM at the Venice airport; I used it in January 2000.

My bankcard (cashcard) works in both networks, so I didn't really pay attention to which network it's on. It's also marked as a VISA debit card, but it worked just fine in the machine.

Robin, It's very easy at most banks to obtain foreign currency. (Even if you live in the sticks like me) We've learned the hard way the problems one can run into not having ANY currency when arriving. For a measly $10 charge we get ourselves a hundred or two in whatever currencies we'll be needing and it makes for great peace of mind.

Hope you have a great trip.

Robin, here's what I do. I take about $200 US in the unlikely event the ATM is down, broken or otherwise inoperable. If this happens, I head over to any of the airport exchange booths (all major airports have these) and convert my US dollars. But I've yet to have to go to this "Plan B" as the ATM has always worked.

While you may not get the best rate at these airport booths, I'd bet my best washcloth that it will be as good or better than you'll get at your local stateside bank.
