Friends are now joining me in London for a week in October (6th to the 13th).
They live near Atlanta, so Delta seems to be the only logical nonstop, and the schedule is good -- they can get there after a work day for the 10:50 PM flight.
Currently it looks like $878. Is that about as good as it will get for that time of year?

A friend of theirs who works for Delta was offering them a "buddy" pass or something where they'd fly for $400 but that's only standby, so seems too scary, especially since that's the only nonstop and the last flight of the day -- so if they didn't get on it, they'd miss a whole day in London.

That is a decent fair for October. They are coming down from the monstrous summer heights, and might come down a little further but you would need flexibility in your dates to maybe save another $75. You have firm dates and a short window so it is better to be safe than sorry.

I agree. I checked with bing.com for a red-eye on Oct 5, and there's one for $834 that leaves at 10:50 pm. You arrive in Heathrow, but the return is out of Gatwick.

The bing.com price predictor says buy now because prices are rising or remaining steady.

Also, look at British Airways. They fly non-stop from Atlanta to Heathrow. Of course, Unite could strike, but hopefully not.

You're right, British Airways does the same route, but about $100 more per person. What's the point? I wouldn't fly BA unless they were the ONLY airline flying a route.
