Atlanta /CDG

From Atlanta, Delta air lines and Air France have some sort of alliance so you can actually fly either Delta crew And Equipment or Air France Crew and Equipment is there a big difference in food? seating? Personnel? is air france a Smoking Flight?

I'm sure Mr. Brown will have some thoughts on this, but I'd say go with Air France planes (regardless of who you buy your ticket from). I've tried both and much prefered the Air France Airbus - a couple more inches of leg room and better food. Plus the times are better (leave ATL later, arrive at noon rather than 6 AM).

There is no smoking on Air France.

I've also flown both from ATL to CDG and prefer Air France. Just seemed more comfortable. While on the subject, which type of plane is supposed to be roomier? 777? I'm getting ready to book my next flight and would like any opinions. Thanks!

I don't know what Air France flies from Atlanta to CDG, but my recent AF flights JFK-CDG and return were 747s. They weren't too roomy, but better than what I've heard about Delta. AF food is typical airline, but definitely not the worst. I will say that AF is very generous with beverages/refreshments (obviously there's less on the overnight flights), and they also serve free wine/liquor in coach and give eye masks and free earphones for audio/movies. AF flight crew were very nice folks on my recent flight.

Terry,
There are presently three daily non-stop flights from Atlanta to Paris.
The 4:05PM flight arriving at 6:30AM is an Air France flight on an Air bus 343. The Delta 5:55PM flight arriving at 8:20AM and the Air France 9:35PM flight arriving at 11:50AM are both on Boeing 777s.

What Wes says agrees with my info.
The MD 11 that Delta flies will be flying into May. I don't know the exact cut over date to the new aircraft, but the B777 is listed for the flight on June 1.

I do not know how the seating on the two B777's is configured. Even though the B777 is a new model airplane, sardine can conditions can continue to exist because many different plans exist. Delta does not inspire confidence that it will do anything other than cram in as many people as the laws allow. I think they will stop short of using compressors because it is bad publicity to maim passengers. (Sorry for the sarcasm, but that flight last year to Paris on the Delta MD 11 was the most excrutiatingly painful flight I have endured outside of military aircraft that were not pressurized.)

Until I get more information on the seating configurations of the B777s on that run, I prefer to take my chances on the Airbus. We flew back on one last year and it was better than the MD 11 flight we had going over.

If someone has flown from Atlanta to Paris, or the reverse, on either the Delta or the Air France Boeing 777 I would be interested in knowing about the seating arrangements.

I think it does make a difference as to how you book the flights. If flying Delta, book through Delta unless there is a big difference in price like there was last year!!!! I booked through Air France because of the lower fare, and I did not realize at the time that the actual flight was run by Delta. When we got to the check-in counter, Delta did not know about our seat reservations, although I had written them down after a conversation with an Air France reservations employee a month before the flight. So we got stuck in the middle of the aircraft. I guess I should be glad we got to sit together. Fortunately, I had an aisle seat and my wife was next to me. But sleep was darn near impossible.

As for food quality, I think the two flights were about the same. AF might have been a little better, but that is a personal taste issue. There was no smoking on either flight. I think the Delta crew was a little better; but the Air France crew was ok. The AF chief steward or whatnot had only one expression: grim. I never got a smile out of him although I tried. Maybe he had stomach cramps or something.

I flew Delta last fall to Paris, using ff miles. It was Delta equipment and a combination of Air France and Delta crew. The seating in coach was excruciatingly tight, particularly because of the pitch of the seats; when the person in front of me reclined fully, which he did for most of the flight, the back of his seat was only a couple of inches from my face. It even made eating the horrible meal difficult--good thing I always bring my own sandwich.

I just checked my itinerary for an upcoming return trip from CDG to ATL on Air France (Delta code share) and found out that they've switched planes on me - from an Airbus to a 777. The seating is 3-3-3 (ugh) but luckily I caught it in time and was able to switch from a window/middle to an isle/middle.

So on May 30, barring an AF strike, I'll be able to report back on the AF 777 and whether Delta is able to successfully make seat reservations on AF code shares.
