I have not been to Greece in 25 years and am planning a return trip this Fall. We are four adults and are considering 2 days in Athens and 6 in Santorini, Flying from the US East Coast. Looks ike airfare is about $1100 USD pp unless someone knows of a better deal.
Any suggestions on a good clean hotel in Athens near the Plaka at about $200 USD per room per night? I'm also a big fan of apartments and am wondering if there are any 2 bedroom apartments in Santorini that folks might recommend or suite like hotels that have 2 bedrooms.
and of course....where to eat - suggestions???

We were very happy with the Athens Cypria Hotel--well located, clean, reasonable, large rooms, modern bathrooms, friendly front desk staff.
For Athens the Attalos Hotel is one of many good tourist hotels within easy walking distance to the Plaka and Syntagma Square. Also check out the Pan, Arethusa, Metropolis, Amazon, Cecil, Central, Omiros and Hermes Hotels.
For Santorini check out the Scirocco Apartments, Villa Ilias, Gizis Apartments, Strogili Houses, Filotera Villas, Rimida Villas, Nostos Apartments, Ifestio Villas, Dream Blue (www.myblue.gr), Villa Marina and Golden Sunset Villas.
I have stayed at Athens Gate which has been recently renovated and includes many rooms with a lovely view to the Acropolis. It is clean and the staff is always friendly and willing to help tourists. The room I stayed was comfortable and I enjoyed sitting at the balcony during the evening. The sky had great colours in the sunset, over Parthenon.
