I am working with a travel agent in Greece to book our trip this May. She just e-mailed me that the Callirhoe only had rooms with a view of the Acropolis through a window or a balcony with no view of the Acropolis. She quoted me 220euros for a double room at the NJV with a balcony with a view of the Acropolis, but from my research, this seems awfully low for the NJV and some of the reviews have not been very good for this hotel.I'm only in Athens for a day and a half, so I want to be within walking distance of the Plaka and Acropolis, which is why I chose to look into these hotels.
How important would you say a view of the Acropolis from your balcony is?

The Callirhoe ! Take the room with the window-view to the Acropolis.
From its roofgarden you will have a grand -and a comfortable-view to this monument and the privilege(untill the end of May) to taste the cuisine of one of the most acclaimed and awarded new greek chefs.
mzani,
So you have stayed here?
The travel agent is also recommending the St George Lycabettus, but I don't know if it is walking distance to the Plaka and Acropolis. I know I can
cab-it, but I like to walk around.
For a little bit more have the best, stay at the Grande Bretagne. I was there in an Acropolis view room at Christmas, fabulous.
The NJV is nothing special - I walked into the lobby, treat yourself.
Has no one stayed at the St. George?
Hi,
The best choice in Athens is by far the GB(for May 300 euros and +.Do not miss a spa tratment.
The St George is a good choice for 200 euros (splendid views, renovated and with good restaurants),on Kolonaki Hill, the chicest and upscale shopping area of Athens.Ask for a superior or deluxe Acropolis view room.(30 minutes pleasant walk to the Acropolis and 15 toPlaka
The Callirhoe should be cheaper than the others to justify your final choice:
the location is good for the Acropolis, but there is nothing exciting (shopping/restaurants etc...)
The amenities are good,fully renovated
A new little gem,but with no views
A new little gem(brand new but no views),is the Xenos Lycabettus in the best area of Kolonaki, just 5 minutes from Syntagma.
Thanks mzani and mkingdom.
Still haven't made up my mind.
Thanks everybody for the input.
This trip to Greece is to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, so I decided to "go for it" and have booked the Grande!
Maybe we will still go to the Callirhoe for a meal to enjoy the talents of its chef mzani!
