Athens - 8am-6pm - what to do?
Hi all.
My husband and I arrive at Piraeus cruise port at 8am - mid September - and have a flight out from Athens airport departing 7.30pm. Guess we need to check in at 6pm. What do we do all day and we will have luggage - any suggestions would be great.
thanks

www.eurocheapo.com/athens
great budget city guides
virtualtourist.com good local postings
For me the Acropolis the museum the Plaka area
insuremytrip.com is VERY wise Greek bonds/debt
is up to 94% per year not sustainable for long strikes unrest
secondary to this not unexpected monitor
travel.state.gov and keep your wits about you
guided tours like www.viator.com safest...
Good luck!

I agree with QWO above... the Acropolis, the museum then
the Plaka would be top of my list too. There's also one of those tourist train things that drives around... you feel like a dork being on one but it's a good way to see things if your time is limited. ;^)
A couple of years ago there were luggage lockers at the Monastiraki metro station in the Plaka.
My airline wanted me at the airport 3 hours ahead to fly back to Montreal... best check with yours. It will take about an hour to get to the airport via metro. Be sure you stamp your
metro tickets in the yellow machines and hold them till you complete your journey... inspections are frequent and fines are high.

There are still luggage lockers at the Monastiraki station, but since there are only a few, you can never know if you'll find one available. Apart from that these lockers are not suitable for big suitcases....
An alternative would be Pacific Travel, they offer this kind of service and are located near Syntagma Square.

Sure there are reliable tour operators that could organize a pick up from the cruise port, drive you around and bring you to the airport....
The wis would have a high price though, as you would have a driver at disposal for more than 8 hours, plus a licensed guide... The price for the guide alone could be around 300 Euro...plus entrance fees of the sites, plus expenses for a vehicle with driver.
If you think that this is within your price range i could gladly recommend a few tour operators based in Greece.
