Asturias and paradors or hotels

Hi fellow travelers. Need good advise as have been looking up places and paradors for hours but can't seem to find a good fit or good reviews. Anyone stayed at a great parador in Asturias or atmospheric hotel? As a family with 2 children, we are driving from Salamanca to San Sebastián and want to stay 2 nights somewhere that has different feel and emvironment to Salamanca or San Sebastian, preferably in the mountains or green views.

Don't want to drive too much out of the way either. About 3 hours from Salamanca is ok and about the same to San Seb. Checked out Parador Cangas De Onis, Gijon and Cevera de Pisuerga but reviews don't seem very good.was also thinking of somewhere fairly close to Oviedo if it's worth to go there for food and Siderias.

It will be middle of summer so somewhere cool will also be great and lots of spaces for kids to run around. Any tips out there? Thanks .

Look at Ribasella on the coast. Pretty town.

You can check out the Casinos con Encanto (www.casonasasturianas.com) in Asturias for a place to stay. There is a good selection to choose from.

We've stayed in a few of the places over the years and can recommend you check out Palacio De La Viñona in Oviedo and the Torre De Villademoros in Valdés.

One of the nicest hotels in the region is the Palacio de Luces (www.palaciodeluces.com). Great location, staff and experience. But it's also the most expensive.

We've stayed at the Parador Fuente Dé a couple of times. It's comfortable and the area is great for trekking as well as great cuisine. I can also recommend the Parador de Gijón and Cangas de Onís. We've stayed at the Parador de Limpias several times over the years and have always found it to be comfortable.

I hope this helps.

Just look on Booking.com.
Reviews to be trusted. Search by filters, including location price etc.
Aps for phones so hotels can be booked whilst on the go.

I have stayed at the parador in Cervera de Pisuerga and loved it.. it could possibly be my favorite parador stay ever. I think it would be good for kids too. It has more of a mountain lodge feeling than a historical building feeling. Our room was huge and had a wonderful view of the mountains.

It is not in Asturias though

Thanks all.
Robert, Unfortunately the Palacios a bit expensive. Was also looking at cangas de Onis and Gijon But also saw negative reviews. That's why I'm not sure which parador to choose as wanted to experience a more rustic accommodation.

Rialtogrl, I was actually considering Cervera and thought the views are amazing and great for kids. But was a bit worried that food (which is a big deal for us) may not be great at the hotel and nearby. Want to try local specialities and the siderias. There was some negative reviews on Tripadvisor on the parador stating its a bit run down. Can I ask when you went?

Chimpy, I was at that parador in 2006 so it has been awhile. At that time the food was really good, even the room service. But this could have changed. On the same trip we had some lunch at the parador in Cangis de Onis and that was good too.

It was certainly not run down when we were there, it's not really a glamorous place to begin with.. Very rustic with a big wood deck (strong cocktails out there!)

If you decide to go I do hope you will report back... Maybe if you go for one night bring a big hunk of cheese just in case

Hotel reviews on TA need to be taken with a grain of salt, if not a cup. Parador de Cangas de Onís gets excellent reviews on Booking.com, 8.9. The Parador de Gijón is dated, but still a comfortable place to stay, and quite popular for Amigos members.

I was at the Cangas de Onis Parador in 2006 and really liked it. I asked for a room in the Zona monasterio of the Parador. The Parador is on a convenient location to visit Covadonga and the lakes of Enol and Ercina, beautiful up there!
