Ashburn Hotel
I'm taking my niece on a week's vacation to London and will be staying at the Ashburn located on Cromwell in London Is this a good area to be and how close is it to the local transportation? We're planning 2 day trips and will have the remaining days (4) to roam around London and some outlying areas to visit. Looking at the Chislehurst Caves, Camden, Greenwich, etc. Will these be pretty easy to get to and what would be the best mode of transportation to use?

Why didn't you ask before you booked the hotel?
I prefer to stay in Bloomsbury, but it is not a bad area. Certainly convenient for my favorite museum, the V&A. The hotel is close to the Gloucester Road tube station, which is on the Piccadilly line, so you can take the tube in from LHR.

There is a good central London bus map on the same site. If you have a smart phone the maps app will be useful, too.
I grew up in England but had to look up the Chislehurst Caves - never heard of them. Not sure why you would want to go there, when there are so many wonderful sights above ground, but there are directions on the website.

The Ashburn is is an OK location -- on the direct tube line in from Heathrow and on three line that make easy to get around. Not the most central but certainly convenient enough.
Are you considering 2 days trips besides the places you mention - or are those what you are considering for your days trips? If so it is a bit confusing -- Camden is in central London and would not be a 'day trip'. Greenwich is essentially in London and wouldn't require a full day - but is worth visiting.
I have heard (and been to) Chislehurst but they would seem to be an unusual choice as a day trip on a first (or 3rd, 4th) trip to London.
So . . . 1) how old is your niece? 2) what sorts of things interest you? 3) When is the trip?

lol, my friend's aunt used to own them! apart from that I doubt that I'd have heard of them and even then I've never been there, not even when I lived only 30 mins drive away. So they would not be top of my list, not even for a day out in Kent.
With 6 days in total, 4 spent in London and 2 on excursions is probably about right - I would suggest Hampton Court for one and Greenwich for the other. Kent is a wonderful county with loads to see but unless you do an organised tour getting to the various attractions like Hever Castle, Chartwell, Sissinghurst, Leed's Castle, and even Chislehurst caves could be tricky.
if the caves are a must see for some reason that has passed the rest of us by, here's how to get there:

Good luck!

They owned the caves - how fun would that be!
Thinking about this - just a hunch, but txbound, by any chance did you pick the caves because they are included on the London Pass? If so please don't buy the London Pass. It is VERY expensive - and it includes a lot of second and third (and fourth) tier attractions.
If you have already forked over for the LP, we can help you make the best of it.

In fact I'm not sure that my friend didn't inherit them, but I don't think she owns them now. We never think that private individuals actually own places like that, do we, or at least I didn't! and it still never occurred to me to go or to my friend to invite me!
