Area to stay for Family of 4 in London
Hello everyone.
We are planning to visit London for a week. We are a family of 4 (2 kids of 7 and 10 years). Planning on renting an apartment on VRBO.
There seems to be so many options in the various Neighbourhoods, it is hard to narrow it down: Kensington, Covent Garden, Tower Hill (The City), Notting Hill, Bayswater, Belgravia, Pimlico, etc... It is overwhelming.
We are looking for a fun place where we can literally walk to a local Pub/restaurant/market, walk to some of the local attractions, or jump onto the tube. Not so loud that we will be woken up throughout the night, but not so dead that walking home after a day's touring, we are walking through a ghost town.
Any suggestions of which area(s) you suggest would be really helpful. That way, I can narrow it down on the VRBO map.
Thanks everyone.

PQ: you have no idea! St Katherine's marina is next door to the Tower and at Tower Bridge. It is not dead, it is a lovely area with many restaurants, pubs and good transport links. And a short walk to even more restaurants and pubs just across the river.
You haven't given your budget, but these are about the best bargain in central London http://www.hamletuk.com/
Not at all posh but a great p,ace to stay especially for a family. A large Waitrose supermarket in the complex and good bus connections and tower hill tube station about a 10 minute walk.
If you want fancier though, tbere are MANY good neighborhoods. Though none would be as quiet as the marina a since there is virtually no vehicle traffic.

Janis' suggestion looks very good. Always tempted.
We like to stay in Bloomsbury. Lots of good pubs nearby in Fitzrovia, Holborn, and Red Lion areas. Easy walk to Covent Garden. If you can get a place of the main streets there are quiet neighborhoods and residential squares.
I prefer a quad room the smaller inns when in London, the kind with a ground floor breakfast room. More friendly than an apartment, and our kids enjoyed the people-watching aspects and a chance to interact a little.
