I loved Arco del Lauro. Trastevere is an awesome neighbourhood to stay in. I felt that I saw more of the "real" Rome there.
You won't find a more helpful host than Lorenza. I can't speak more highly of the service we received at the B&B. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, there is free Internet access, and a communal fridge stocked with yoghurt, juice and tea and coffee and biscuits available at all times.
In addition. Lorenza provides vouchers for you to take to a local cafe in the Piazza where you can have your breakfast cuppuccino and cornetto each day.
She was also very helpful to us (as we were married in Rome during our stay there) and made bookings for services, taxis etc and nothing was ever too much trouble.
Hope this feedback helps!

If you do a search for Arco del Lauro on the Europe forum you will come up with lots of threads mentioning it. My recollection is that it gets very good reviews from people who have stayed there.

I can comment some on the neighborhood. We stayed 7 nights in an apartment across the Tiber in the Jewish ghetto neighborhood and walked back and forth into Trastevere over the Isola Tiberina 7 out of 8 days. The area where Arco del Lauro is located is in a quiet, charming area of Trastevere. It is convenient to the pedestrian bridges over the river and thereby to a bus that runs north then west to the Vatican area (return trip is on the Trastevere side of the river). There is a tram route along Viale de Trastevere to the central transportation hub in the historic district, Largo di Torre Argentina

There is also easy transportation to/from the airport combining this tram #8 with a local train

HEre is a thread with lots of information about the neighborhood

We stayed at Arco del Lauro last May for 5 nights and LOVED it! As above poster said, Lorenza is a total gem and will make your stay a pleasure starting with your first emails! She bends over backward to help you in any way she can and clearly really loves people and running her B&B. Book as soon as you can because she fills up really early.

The rooms at the B&B are no frills, simple but quite functional. The location is fabulous, close enough to walk easily into central Rome and many of the most interesting places but out of the crazy hustle and bustle of the "city" with a real neighborhood feel. 5 minute walk to the tram that takes you over the river to the biggest bus stop (8 minute walk to the bus stop.)

There are MANY really fantastic restaurants in Trastevere (search Trastevere restaurants)and we were delighted to stay there. Have a great trip!

We stayed at Arco del Lauro in October, and I can only echo what Ness and Plafield have said. All good; nothing bad. And Lorenza's limoncello.....!

Stayed in Trastevere for an entire week while in Rome in May. Stayed at Hotel Santa Maria - oasis in the midst of Trastevere. Returned to Trastevere restaurants each eveninf for dinner.

Mind if I ask a question to those of you who have stayed here.
Deos Arco del Lauro have private baths or do you share them with others?

We stayed in Arco del Lauro in March 2007, it is a very lovely place, great location. I have been in ROme many times and usually I do not care for b&b actually this place is more like a tiney inn. The personal touch provided by the owner, a caring, intelligent,Italian lady, makes all the difference. She is like having a friend staying with you.
Of course each room has a bathroom I would never stay in something different,I found it a wonderful place to stay and enjoy Rome. Great location too.

Hi all, we came back only a few days ago aafter spending five nights in Arco del lauro and again and again it was wonderful. Not only you have of course your private bathroom but you have a hair dryer, ac, flat tv , and all those freebes in the small lobby including free internet. The freebes include, orange juice, yogourt, coffee, tea , delicious homemade lemoncello and also the wonderful feeling of being at home in the midst of the Trastevere.
We have stayed several times in Arco del lauro and loved it each time.

I don't like Trastevere. I think it is the haunt of American college students living in Rome for a semester.

Too many Penn State t-shirts for my taste.

Santa Maria in Trastevere is a very beautiful church.

Just to update reviews on Arco del Lauro. My husband and I just returned from our stay in Rome for 4 days. After reading reviews here and on Trip Advisor, I decided that this was the place for us. Several emails and calls to Lorenza confirmed our reservations.

The location of a first time visitor to Rome, IMHO, is perfect! It is in the quiet area of Trastevere down a side street away from the main action. This ensured a quiet night's sleep. It is an older building but don't let that deter you. The inside is very nicely done. Also, Lorenza is charming and very helpful and more than willing to give advice and guidance.

As mentioned before, Lorenza has a small foyer with a tiny refrigerator stocked with OJ, yogurt, limoncello, and water. A kettle and instant coffee or tea helps to round out the offerings (perfect for the morning before you head out to see the sights or for the evening when you return and need some sustenance).

The room is clean and refreshing. Nothing fancy but clean simple lines with an air conditioner...something we relished since we stayed there in August. The bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in during our 2 wk travels! An armoire for your clothing, a shelf for your belongings and a small but adequate and well designed bathroom rounded out the room.

The location was within walking distance to Santa Maria in Trastevere...10-15 minutes at most....and within walking distance to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, Spanish steps, Trevi fountain etc. Assuredly you will walk for miles but even in the heat it was very pleasant as there is so much to see! Take advantage of the bus system if you can and also the plentiful taxis when you want to head back to the B&B at the end of a long and tiring day.

Yes I know this sounds like an advertisement but it is not. I'm just so pleased to have found this place and the more details that are shared the easier it will be for others to make their choice.
