Approximate train costs?
Anyone have any idea on how I can obtain a rough idea of the cost on an adult train ticket in September from 1. Ceske Budejovice to Salzburg and 2. Salzburg to Prague?
I have found schedule information from the Deutschbahn website but I'm stumped on the expensive.
Suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
Cheers, the turnip

I don't know that website, I think it doesn't give prices. I have used the Czech Rail website, but it doesn't give prices for journeys outside the Czech Republic. I know those trips within the CR would be very cheap, about 200 CZK second class (Ces.Bud to Salzburg) and 300 CZK based on the distance (only US $10-15).
Raileurope prices the longer one (Salzburg to Prague) at US$78 second class (vs what I think would be $15 if only a Czech train). For a rough idea, I'd split the difference and assume around half the Raileurope rate.

Go to www.railsaver.com and input the itinerary. Make sure you specify that you are not looking for passes. You will get a response in US dollars.

I do not know how much mark-up is involved in the response for point to point tickets. Unlike passes, the price of which are set by the indivdiual railroads, point to points are something else again.

Hi turnip,
Enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com.
Click "only if it saves me money".
You will get a reasonably good estimate.
