Apartments in Rome
Hi all
I will be travelling to Rome in September 12 with my husband, 18 month old son and my father. We are looking for an apartment and I was hoping to get some recs.
Also any advice on the best areas to stay?
Thanks in advance!

SleepInItaly and VRBO are both good places to start.
Check out slowtrav for reviews, although many of the apartments on VRBO and SleepInItaly also have reviews.
How mobile is your father? The one thing you'll want to remember is that "1st floor" in Italy means up one flight of stairs. (They don't count a "ground floor".)
You also want to make sure that if you are staying on other than the street level, that the apartment has a lift (elevator).
You should not need a/c in September, but if you require it, make sure the apartment has it listed.
City center is always best, in my opinion. But it depends on your budget. To save, you could stay in Trastevere (west of the Tiber). Nice family neighborhoods. Make sure you are close to public transport.
Is this your first trip to Italy?

You might want to check out:
http://www.palazzo-olivia.it/
I recently booked through booking.com a 2 room apartment here for a stay end of March 2012. The youngest in our group is just under 1 yr and the oldest is 68.
It has an elevator, is in the historic city center just off Piazza Navona and the intersecting street is a major thoroughfare with a stop on the #64 bus line that will get you to either Stazione Termini or St. Peters. It has a good rating on both tripadvisor and booking.com and the negative comments made by a couple of travelers concern points we don't feel strongly about. We also felt one complainant in particular did not understand the difference between apartment and hotel and had the expectations of services rendered by a hotel concierge, not the independence associated with an apartment.
I will let you know how we like it after we return in April!

It would help if you gave some idea of how much you want to pay for an apartment. We had a very good experience renting through realrome.com. The apartments are reasonable and the owner is a pleasure to deal with.
For location I would recommend the area around Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori or the Ghetto or the part of Trastevere near the Tiber. This question has been asked many times. Here is a good thread discussing the pros and cons of different neighborhoods

klondiketoo, we've stayed at Palazzo Olivia three times in the past six or so years and have sent friends there too. Carla, the manager, is terrific. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
