Apartment rental in Rome at Vicolo di San Trifone 1 - easy to find?

Hello! So we are going back to Rome for our 4th visit and we have an apartment booked at Vicolo di San Trifone 1 near Piazza Navona. I'm not familiar with this street and I'm not having much luck with Google maps finding the exact location. We are going with another couple and basically I'm trying to figure out if it's easy enough to find on our own or if we should book a car from Termini. I'm leaning towards the car booking, but I thought I would ask here first. Has anyone stayed near here? The apartment link, if it helps, is http://www.rentalinrome.com/santrifo...trifoneapt.htm.

Also, if we do book a car the apartment rental company is quoting 45E from Termini to this apartment. It's been a few years since I've been to Rome. Do you think this is a good deal or would it be better to just get a taxi upon arrival?

Thanks!
Tracy

hi tracy,

given that we paid €50 for a taxi all the way to the airport, €45 from termini to the apartment is a real rip-off!i

it looks as if it is just off via coronari which is very well known so any taxi driver ought to be able to find it.

I think that the rental company are having a laugh.

the apartment looks nice though, and good value. if you click on my screen name, you can see what we found to do [restaurants, cafes, bars] when we stayed in an apartment nearby last year.

have a great trip!

Thanks annhig! That's exactly what I thought. I remember taking a taxi from our apartment (again, near Piazza Navona) to FCO in 06 and paying about 45E but that was 5 years ago so I didn't know what to expect. I'm giong to check out taxi fares.

I'll definitely click on your name for some advice of food! I haven't had much luck in Rome in the past with restaurants but I think that's because I didn't do any research. Live and learn!

The cheapest way to go would be to get on the #40 bus in front of Roma Termini and ride six stops to the Ponte Vittorio Emanuelle II bridge stop. You would be at the end of Via Coronari (left side of the map on the apartment website) and it's less than a 5-minute walk to the apartment. Of course, it is all cobblestone through there! But that's only €1 a person!

A taxi for four with luggage should run you €15-18 to go from Roma Termini to the apartment.

The No. 70 to the Zanardelli stop gets you closer than the No. 40 does.

If you go to www.visual.paginegialle.it and enter Roma in the second box and San Trifone in the third box, it will show you where it is: it's so tiny that not even the Rome public-transport authority has heard of it.

there are some very nice restaurants and shops in and near the via coronari, in fact we loved that whole neighbourhood.

in particular there is a supermarket about half-way along via coronari that is quite convenient for your apartment.

do you know that once you have put your address into google, you can then enter any sort of business [restaurant, bakery, gelateria] into the address box, and they will come up on the map.

As everyone is saying, if you can find via dei Coronari you should be able to locate your apartment. And 45 euro from Termini is a total ripoff even by my loosey-goosey standards.

I stayed right by there on vicolo della Volpe my last trip and remember the little supermarket on via Coronari that annhig mentions. There is a pretty big taxi rank at the end of Coronari as well, I think at via Zanardelli. We used it quite a bit for going out to dinner during our visit.

That's a well-priced apartment by the way, Tracy. I hope you'll come back and post your thoughts after your trip.

Have fun!

To clarify, there are buckets of nice little restaurants, etc., nearby the apartment, but I had places on my list much further afield and we were visiting in winter. Hence the taxis.

Thank you all so much! I'll talk it over with my husband and our friends and see what we want to do. I have no problems at all taking the bus.

I think the apartment was a great find, especially at that price and that location! We needed a two bedroom and were expecting to pay quite a bit more to be in the Piazza Navona area. Hopefully the apartment will be as nice in person as it is in the photos...I'll definitely report back once we return.

Hearing about all of the great cafes, restaurants and supermarkets nearby makes me so excited...I can't wait to be back in my favorite city!

Zeppole, thank you for the link!

You're welcome, Tracy, but since Zeppole and I have tangled more than once, I think she'd welcome it as much as I would if you'd distinguish between us.

Hi Tracy, We are looking at renting this very apartment in December for 1 week. How was the apartment? Was it clean? As good as it looks?
Also, how was rentalinrome.com to work with? Really, as we are going soon I would love to hear not only about the apartment but also about your entire trip! Thanks, Francine

fjs, we are actually in the apartment right now. It's fantastic! It's on a tiny street, almost an alley really, but very close to Piazza Navona and an easy walk to Vatican City. This is my 4th time in Rome and I think the location is great. The apartment itself is very roomy, and one of the two bathrooms has a tub...a luxury in Rome. The kitchen is small but efficient.

Just an FYI that is is on the 3rd floor. It's not too bad, but if you have problems with stairs you may want to consider something else. Otherwise, I highly recommend it. For the location, size and price it's hard to beat!

Tracy,
Does each bedroom have its own private bathroom?
Do you find that you have enough privacy?
My husband and I are traveling with another couple next April and I'm finding the hotel prices to be so high.
The apartment looks like a great idea!

bettina - when we were last looking for rentals in Rome, I found any no. of them with 2 double bedrooms and two baths. [which was not of course what I wanted as we were travelling with our grown up kids who do NOT want to share a bed!

what's the betting that you keep finding just what we wanted - a double and a twin or two singles.

you just can't win!

seriously, there are LOTS of agencies out there - just google or look on slow travel.

"a tiny street, almost an alley really"
That's why the address is Vicolo (alley) di San Trionfe!

Bettina, we rented this 2bd/2ba the first week April (last month):
http://www.vrbo.com/283439

Plenty of privacy for 2 couples and great location, very nice building. Negatives: No washing machine, I thought the linens were very poor and one bathroom hadn't been cleaned as well as I would have liked. Nothing awful, but it would have taken the maid about 20 minutes to properly scrub the grout in the shower--or just bleach it. Anyway, I did it myself. Otherwise great place and those wouldn't be dealbreakers for me.

The VRBO apartment above is also available (for less) through an agency:

The owner gave us a "discount" that brought the total to less than the RentalinRome cost, though it wasn't a huge difference.
