I am looking for a budget apartment in Venice for 3 nights in June ... We are open to hotels as well but would prefer an apartment since we are 4 adults (incld my parents) and my four year old boy ...

Having read Franco's posts on this forum in detail about how apartments are much better in center of Venice also due to eating out being too expensive, I am sold ...We always rent apartments in the US, so works with our style ...

So I just got a quote from Casanova Ai Tolentini ... For their apartment they sent me a quote ..

I think both for the Casanova and for the Apartment MAria (in my first post) do not have the best location... But can I get some feedback comparing both of these ??

I love Sant Elena and always make a point of visiting that area when in Venice for its quiet streets, park, and truer feeling of local life. You and your child might enjoy these features. However, you will have a long walk or vaporetto ride every time you go anywhere from Apt Maria in Sant Elena. And even more important, you will have a long walk or ride should you need to go back to the apartment--something to consider with a small child.

Casanova ai Tolentini is much closer to more sights.

We used www.venicerentals.com and were very happy.

They are brokers for apartments all over the city. Tell them what you're looking for and they can give you some options to consider.

Upon arrival one of their staff, an American woman, met us at the appointed vaporetto stop, walked us to the apt, showed us the ropes, local food store, etc.

Unless you're getting the place for free, Sant Elena is far from ideal.

Thanks Ellenem ... I was contemplating the Sant Elena location but then found out that the apt does not have AC ... I am not sure that we should be in Venice in June for 3 nights without AC .. I have heard it gets quite hot ... Thoughts anyone??

You can find a heat wave in June with intense humidity. Weather is always unpredictable. A little AC can go a long way towards helping to sleep at night.

Fondamenta del Gaffaro (my maps spell it differently) is a pretty, picturesque area. I think the neighborhood is great (not very touristy) but Piazzale Roma is your closest vaporetto dock. So what. The price of Tolentini is very inexpensive and their rooms seem to be quite large. To get to the main sites, you'll need to do a lot of walking but the walks will be a fun adventure. The boat rides will cost you more but they're fun, too.

Ahh .. Ok .. got it, NYCfoodsnob .. Still trying to aquaint myself to all the various names of the areas and regions within Venice ...

So we found another apartment through VRBO ... Looks good ... any feedback on this apartment or the one before, will be very useful ..

It was recommended here on Fodors and it was perfect for us. Other than the fact that--like everywhere else in Venice--this is in an ancient biulding, don't expect elegant furnishings. This is basic, very clean and very comfortable.

Very reasonably priced, excellent location (we walked almost everywhere--even though it was December!). The master bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has three singles. There's also a daybed in the small living room. Free wifi. We got what we wanted most for a low price: We were on a small canal and the gondoliers singing under our window as they passed by most definitely added to the "Ah Hah" of being in Venice. And Furio, the owner, was a delight to work with.
