Hello,

I am trying to plan a 3 week trip to Europe in September. I would like some feedback from those in the know about Amsterdam on this apartment as far as location goes, and if you have any other feedback, that would be appreciated. The cost is reasonable, and although I thought we would get a hotel for a reasonable rate in Amsterdam for 3 nights, I am finding that is not the case, and therefore I started looking at apartments. Our dates there are 12 September through 15 September. We are interested in the Sun Bird, one bedroom apartment.

If you have stayed in any other apartment in Amsterdam (or small moderately priced hotel), that you liked, please let me know. We would like to keep it under $175 a night. My husband and I are the travelers, mid-60's, reasonably fit but really don't want to be on higher than the 3rd (2nd European) floor if there is no lift.

I will probably be back asking for help on other accommodations in Paris and Rome soon too. Everyone here is so helpful; I do appreciate it!

Your dates coincide with the IBC - an major and annual conference and exhibition for international broadcasting. Hence the lack of hotel rooms. They tend to be booked up from one year to the next and prices are always high.

The apartment is in a good neighbourhood, with the Albert Cuyp market close by, and walkable to most attractions too.

Hetismij2, thank you for your help. Yes, I realized the IBC was taking place then once I started looking for a room, but the timing can't be changed.

Can you look at these two also and see which location you think is best, including the one above? Or, again if anyone else has any feedback.

As for location I think any of those you mention is OK. Amsterdam is a relatively small city and easily navigated by foot. Having a tram stop nearby is convenient but not an absolute must.

In selecting an apartment keep in mind that most buildings do not have elevators and that the stairs are long, narrow, and STEEP. It is probably best not to rent above the 1st floor, which is the American 2nd floor, unless you can climb and carry or if there is an elevator in working condition.

they're all in very nice locations. Jordaan area can get busy and noisy on weekends, The Stadhouderskade one (the first one you linked) is where I would choose to be. Very nice restaurants in Utrechtsestraat, not so nice ones in the Van Woustraat (Albert Cuyp)

Thank you for your help. So you are saying the very first one, The Sunbird, has the best location? Here is one more; while more expensive, the apartment looks very nice. What about its location?

I don't know what Menachem will say but I don't think I would favor that last call. It's a bit out of the way, in the wrong direction. Then again I've never been down in that part of Amsterdam.

Thanks, spaarne. I really like the Korenbloemen apartment so I am hoping someone who does know that area might comment-Menachem or Hetsmij2-any thoughts? The reviews on flipkey say that it is a great location but would love to hear from someone on Fodors who knows the area. Thanks again all.

I agree with Spaarne. Not an area you want to find yourself in at night. Zandstraat and the bridge across the Achterburgwal is junkie heaven, even now the RDL has been cleaned up. It is very central though, so I don't really get the "out of the way" comment by Spaarne. Point is, you'll have to get across the red light district to get to anywhere in Amsterdam, and there aren't any tram stops nearby. I still like the stadhouderskade one best.

www.studiobloemgracht.nl is on the ground floor of a house on a lovely canal.

I lived there and grew to love it less and less. But it can be nice for a few days.
