Apartment Advice Rome Feb 2012
Hi all! My husband and I (late 20s) will be traveling to Rome in late February 2012. This will be our second trip to Rome (first was a few years ago on our honeymoon- at that time we stayed in a hotel near the Trevi fountain). This time we're looking to rent an apartment. I was hoping you all could offer some advice/recommendations for specific apartments that you've stayed in and have liked. I've read through a bunch of old forum posts and have seen a lot of recs for larger apartments (sleeping 4+) but we're very content to have a one bedroom or studio. Cleanliness and location would be my two biggest interests. I've read reviews on Slow Trav and have looked at several agency websites like SleepinItaly, but would be interested to hear more recent feedback. Budget goal for us is <$1,000 for the week. I've been concentrating my search in the Navona/Campo/Pantheon area but I'm open to suggestions anywhere. We're big walkers so we plan to do all of our sight-seeing on foot. Thanks so much in advance for your advice, Fodorites!!

We are currently staying here: http://www.liveromelikearoman.com/index.htm
The bed is a bit firm, but we love the area and the flat and would definitely stay here again. We have walked everywhere and there are tonnes of bars and restaurants in the area. If you click on my name you can see our ongoing trip report to get more info.

We have used sleepinitaly twice and been totally satisfied both times. We also stayed in Trastevere both times and loved it. We stayed in different areas of Trastevere. Both were good, though different.

this is the place we stayed in February 2010 - http://lacasadiclelia.webs.com/
although it's supposedly two bedrooms, in fact it's ideal for a couple. [we stayed there with our large teenage son and that was fine too]. the living room/kitchen are on the ground floor and the bedrooms/bathrooms downstairs, but they have a very clever arrangement whereby they "borrow" light for the bedrooms from the upstairs, so it is by no means dark or gloomy.
catherine the owner is very helpful and we had a great week - and its very reasonable in price. it's a 5 minute walk over the river to Castel San angelo, and a 10 minute walk though a very interesting area to the Piazza navona. you can walk to St. Peter's in about 15 mins. so many interesting shops and restaurants in the area too, and very "Roman".

Have you tried using Tripadvisor and FlipKey to find aparments in Rome with very recent reviews? They have very good search features as well. There are also a limited number of apartments listed on venere.com and booking.com that have recent reviews.
Sorry I can't help with a personal recommendation because I usually rent a larger apartment.

Here's a place on Flipkey that has 20 reviews, the most recent from the first week in December.

Hi bmoremd
In October of this past year I used the web site http://www.Airbnb.com
I found a fantastic studio apt in the heart of Trastevere on this site. The price as I recall was very reasonable for this area. It is really across the Tiber from Campo De Fiori(about a 15 min walk).
I like Trastevere and highly recommend this area for two main reasons: (1). In the day time it is away from the hustle/bustle of Pz. Navona/Campo/Pantheon areas, yet is in VERY close walking distance to Navona/Campo Pantheon. Also walking distance to the Vatican (I am a walker).
(2) I find that at night it is a very relaxing place to be even though it is very lively. (Unlike Navona/Pantheon which seem to cease activity around 10pm).
So you can have the tranquility yet liviness of staying in Trastevere and the access to Navona/Campo/Pantheon during the day hours.
The Le Bon-Bon B&B that I rented was a studio for two ppl, but we wound up with a third and we were qute comfortable. This apt is incredibly close to the Santa Maria church ~3 min walk.
The owner Sara was VERY nice. The place was clean and quiet.
Hope this helps

In November we stayed in the Archetto apartment from italyperfect.com. http://www.italyperfect.com/rome-tre.../archetto.html
Location is great and the weather was so nice, we actually had lunch on the little terrace.
Highly recommend apartment and service of Italy Perfect.
