I stayed there a couple of years ago. Our room was small but nice. The hotel is located very close to the Olympia tube station, which has limited service and the High Street Kensington station is about a 10-15 minute walk. But the #9 and #10 buses stop right in front of the hotel and both are very convenient routes for getting to either the HSK tube or into central London.

I last stayed there in Feb '07 and it was just fine. Tube service to Olympia is a bit more limited than to many others - but it is not out in the "boonies" and you won't have to wait too long and you won't be stranded. If you don't want to wait at Earls Court for the next Olympia train, you can always catch a cab there for the very short journey on to Olympia. And catching a bus right outside the hotel will get you into the center of things in a few minutes.
My room (pricelined for less than $80) was quite large by London standards. Even though I had a PL booking, at check in they asked me what sort of bed arrangement I wanted. I chose twins figuring the room might be a bit larger. It was just great - w/ clean crisp duvet covers, "all mod cons" including tea/coffee maker, snacks, hair dryer etc.
The staff was super friendly and went out of the way for me a couple of times.
The hotel sometimes gets a bad rap - mostly from folks who have not stayed there or who didn't realize it was a bit out of the very center of town.
It is a decent property - and if it was in South Kens or Bloomsbury, they could charge much higher rates. Don't expect 5 star - but there is nothing bad.

Similar experience in July 2006, again with Priceline under $80. If only you could get that kind of rate again these days.
If you want to be closer to Picadilly/Westminister, it is a long route via the Tube or bus.
Get an Oyster Card with Travel Card and it's okay.
They charge a mint for Internet Access.

as long as you realise it is not in a very good location and you get a good deal, i would go for it. under $80 (£40!!!) would be a no-brainer for me.
there are some excellent iranian restaurants across from Olympia.

i stayed there with my elderly mother, and since we were not interested in walking..(never took one tube in london) it turned out to be excellent with the bus service.
there is even a bus from the back side of victoria station that goes there.. also one at somerset ( down from covent gardens) that brought us home after the theater every night.
mark down the bus numbers on the stops across the street in both directions from the hotel, and you will see how well communicated it is.
it is a very pleasant ride past many monuments.. like being on a tour everyday as we went deeper into the sights!
the room was fine, and nice restaurants nearby full of locals.
also shops to buy transport passes wihtout going up to tube station at olympia or down to kensington ( mor epleasant walk with shops galore).
sign up for hilton honors in case this gets you a newspaper or some additonal service attention.
