Anyone has experience with a learn-to-sail vacation?
Saw an article in the nytimes last week on sailing in Turkey and sounded wonderful. It mentioned a sailing resort, Sunsail Club Javelin. Checked out the website it looks a bit like a waterpark/disney resort. But I know sometimes a good/bad web designer can make a place look much better/worse than it really is. Has anyone been to this place and can comment?
We have hired sailboats while on vacation before but never really learned for real. Can anyone recommend a vacation spot/program designed for beginners serious about learning to sail?
Thanks!

Are you set on going to Turkey? If so, I cannot help you, but if you are thinking Spain might be good, then I know a few places.
I sail quite a bit, but all of my learning was done in the US (thank you, summer camp and the lake by my house). I think that if you have the option to learn sailing before leaving, you should go for it. I am not saying sign up for a semester or anything, but getting someone to give you the basics (terms and general rules of conduct) would be really helpful. Just remember that lake sailing is nothing like sea sailing.

Pausanias, thanks for the link. Checking out the site right now.
Laclaire, I adore Spain so will definitely like to hear your suggestions. What months/regions are best for sailing? We know some basics but will try to take a weekend course here at home before we go.
Anyone else has experience learning to sail while on vacation? We are looking for more serious/organized programs, both live onboard or resort versions. Thanks!

Perhaps you would be more happy in joining a flotilla cruise. In these, a group of rental sailboats all go together, with a really experienced skipper on the lead boat. If you screw up, there is always someone within range to come help.
Here is one link for such out of Bodrum: http://www.centurionyachting.co.uk/flotilla.htm
I have sailed that coast years ago on my own boat, and it offers wonderful cruising.
Have a great trip!
