Anyone had personal experience with "In Italy" other Italian tour companies?

Jump to last reply

Hi, all. I am looking for personal recommendations of good day-tour companies in Italy.

My DH and I are planning a Naples-Amalfi Coast trip in October for our 25th anniversary and have invited my parents, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, to join us. We fly in to Rome and immediately take the train to Naples, our base for 2 nights, so that we can visit the Museo Archeological Nazionale before touring Pompeii. We plan to spend a half-day or so touring the ruins in Pompeii in transit from Naples to Sorrento. Rather than dealing with all of our luggage on the Circumvesuviana railway (not to mention having to store or check it somewhere whilst on our Pompeii visit), I am thinking of splurging on a personal day tour. I need a company that will pick us up at our hotel in Naples, drive us to Pompeii, give us a thorough and knowledgeable tour of the ruins in English, join us for a good restaurant meal in or around Pompeii, and then take us to our hotel in Sorrento. I have corresponded by email with the lodging and tour company In Italy (www.initaly.com), who say that they can provide this level of personalized service. Has anyone used In Italy for tours? What do you think of them?

Can anyone highly recommend a different touring company that would be able to meet these requirements?

In Sorrento, we will rent a car, so as to have greater flexibility in touring the Amalfi Coast. (My DH and I will be doing all the driving, letting my parents enjoy the views.) We are staying in Sorrento for 4 nights, and will probably take a day trip by ferry to Capri, as well as driving tours to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and perhaps down to the Greek ruins at Paestum. (My father is a tremendous history buff.) We will return the car in Sorrento and take the train back to Rome, staying there another 2 nights. (DH and I spent a week in Rome in 2003, so we do not feel as though we need as much time there.) My parents are staying on a while longer (oh, to be retired!) and may move on to Tuscany and Florence before returning to the States.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on our itinerary, and especially for feedback on "In Italy" or any other tour companies that you have dealt with personally!
