Sorry Sandi, no clue as I've never stayed in the area, but the apartment looks awesome.

The Spanish Steps area should be fine, as the poshest of posh stores are all nearby...but that's just the armchair traveler in me commenting...

Here's hoping someone else more helpful comes along to help you out...

Oh wait! Looking at the map, I know exactly where it is now...there are lots of restaurants nearby. You won't want to venture too close to the park at night, or too far from the main streets. I found it too creepy personally. I remember there was one big brand hotel right on that street, just can't remember the name right now.

Again, this is just one night's experience. Hopefully, someone else more helpful and more experienced will be by to help...

I was wondering about what the fringes of the park were like. We are just hoping to stay in a different area that where we've stayed before and the "rental in rome" had some nice apts in the Spanish Steps area.

I would love any feedback.

The only time I walked along Via Francesco Crispi was in the morning, but I think caution would suggest staying away from the upper part of the street that gives onto the park at night.

From the rental map, it would seem that the apartment is below the park area and close to Via Sistina, which should be quite safe and frequented at night. One end of Via Sistina is Trinita dei Monti at the top of the Spanish Steps (there are at least two luxury hotels at the Spanish Steps end); the other is Piazza Barberini, where Via Vittorio Veneto starts (where there are, of course, a number of luxury hotels).

I would think that if you stay south of Via Sistina (which includes the whole high-end shopping area around Via Condotti) or in the Via Veneto area (if you go through Piazza Barberini rather than along Via Crispi, which goes steeply uphill, changes name to Via di Porta Pinciana and ends at the upper end of Via Veneto), you should be quite all right.

Personally, I would much rather stay in the Piazza Navona/Pantheon/Campo de Fiori area, where the streets are busy until late at night and there are many more cafes and restaurants.
