Anyone familiar with Leganes, Spain, south of Madrid!?
Hey gang!
I'll be studying in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid for five weeks in Abril and May. I have a free place to stay in the southern city/neighborhood of Leganes and I'm wondering about transportaion.
I looked up the metro schedule and there are three transfers to make if I travel from the Leganes Centro to the metro in Salamanca and it will take 70 minutes one-way . Is this the best and fastest way to get into Madrid? Is it safe for a 4o something yr. old woman traveling alone to take the train at night from Madrid to Leganes?
Free is always good, but it may be alot of travel hassle and I may want to stay closer to the school. Advice?
Thanks for your help!

You shouldn't have any problem, but it is a commute to the Salamanca district. You have to change lines and do a little walking between metro stops. I wouldn't worry about your safety when riding the metro, but you need to watch out for pickpockets around Sol.

You may want to combine buses either to aluche or elliptica and then ONE metro to not have to change three times.
It will be somewhat of a hassle.. let's admit it.. but plenty of students travel distances worse than that to go to the uni.
