Ingolstadt ... from what I can recall, it's more or less an industrial town in Bavaria. Although I can't say I've ever spent any time there. Why don't you cross the border into the Czech Republic and visit one of the spa towns, like Marienbad or Carlsbad?

Have never been to Ingolstadt (about 100km NE Stutgartt I believe), but it must be somewhat industrial as Audi has a large manufacturing plant there. If you're interested in Audi (I am) they have a plant tour, but I also understand the region is beautiful.
Have an nice trip.

We visited Ingolstadt last Dec. while in Munich for the Christmas Market (wunderbar!). The reason for going was to see the Bavarian Army Museum. If you are interested in German Military History this a must see. I was particularly interested in the WWI section which is located across the river from the castle; world class exhibit. Since we came by train (also wuderbar!) we had to take a taxi to the museum. Some wonderful people in a tea shop across from the museum called a taxi for us to return. Lovely and memorable experience.

Ingolstadt was a great medieval town. You can see a lot of the old architecture - there are many beautiful buildings there. Yes, it is somewhat industrial, but the old beauty remains. You can walk the town in a day - there are some interesting museums.

Martin- I spent a few nites in Ingolstadt many many years ago and there was nothing there. Many years ago I had to stay there and ride the train back and forth to the Oktoberfest in Munich.
I would suggest no more than 1 nite in Ingolstadt and the rest of your time in places like Munich, Garmisch, Salzburg, Fussen, or Berchtesgarden. They are all within several hours of Ingolstadt. Enjoy your trip- Ken Horn
